After graduating from the University of Detroit High School, Pat attended the University of Detroit to pursue a career in Civil Engineering. He became a Registered Land Surveyor after joining the civil engineering consulting firm Spalding and DeDecker as one of their first employees. While there, he provided site design for land development projects throughout southeast Michigan for over five decades. Pat was also a talented artist, athlete, music enthusiast and loving father. He played softball for years and later became a legendary baseball and football manager in Royal Oak's youth leagues winning many championships while teaching the sport and leadership to hundreds of young men. He was a talented golfer with a single-digit handicap scoring well on many of America's most prominent golf courses from Pebble Beach to Doral Country Club. He and his family were proud members of St. Dennis Catholic Church.
Pat is survived by his present wife Ann Robinson, and his first wife Rosemary O'Rourke; and his children, Kathleen (Timothy) O'Rourke-Mouriarty, Timothy (Joy) O'Rourke, Colleen (Brian) Taylor and Terrianne (Andy) Gould; grandchildren, Logan O'Rourke, Brianna (Josh) Guisbert and Aidan (Emily) Taylor; and Ann's daughters, Terri (David) Soffin-Stayer and Carol (Randy) Pietz; grandchildren, David (Brandy) Chamberlin, Daniel (Kaci) Chamberlin, Danielle (Wes) Zanardelli, Kyle Soffin and Trevor (Maureen) Soffin; his brother, Daniel (Arlene) O'Rourke; and nephews, Richard, Scott and Daniel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Ferne O'Rourke; sister, Mary Jane (Don) Phillips; and nephew, Patrick O'Rourke.
There will be a memorial visitation on Friday, June 2, 2023 from 3:00 pm until the time of the service at 5:00 pm at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W 11 Mile Road (4 blocks E of Woodward), Royal Oak.
Memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society are appreciated.
