Paul H. Brunette died on March 29, 2023, at the age of 91 years old.
Paul was born in Paris, Texas but was raised in Arlington, Texas, where his family resided at the time and where he attended elementary school and Arlington High School graduating in 1948. His father, William H. Brunette died in August 1947 just before Paul began his senior year in high school and his mother, Lillian I. Brunette moved to Austin in January of 1948, and started a men's student house known as the Brunette House located one block south of the Texas campus at 1908 Wichita Street.
Paul finished his senior year at Arlington High living with his friend and team mate George Parr and his family. Paul was a three year letterman on the Arlington Colts football team and was a first team all district selected by the Fort Worth Press. He also was selected to receive the Marguire Award, which is awarded to the outstanding lineman awarded by a local man at that time. After graduation he moved to Austin and started school at UT. In January of 1951, his college education was interrupted by Paul enlisting in the United States Navy serving on the USS Haley, DD556 during the Korean War.
After being discharged from the Navy he returned to UT where he met Charlotte June Senechal in December of 1954. After a short romance, he married the love of his life, and the marriage had lasted 67 years.
Paul continued his education at the University of Texas earning a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1956, after which he entered into the University of Texas Law School graduating in 1959. After graduation he, his wife and two children moved to Wichita Falls, Texas, where he was employed by Humble Oil Company for a brief period and then became employed by the Wichita County Attorney as an assistant prosecutor. He later went into private practice and spent the rest of his life in Wichita Falls, Texas practicing law, and received his 50 year pen from the Texas Bar Association. He loved Wichita Falls and often told others what a wonderful city it was to live and raise a family.
Paul is survived by his wife, Charlotte Senechal Brunette; his son, David B. Brunette and wife Brenda; daughter Dorothy B. Simons and fiancé Jon Jones; four grandchildren, Charlotte Simons, Lillian Simons, Neely Brunette and Reed Sterling Brunette; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at the Church of the Good Shepherd, at 1007 Burnett Street, Wichita Falls, Texas.
For those desiring, memorial contributions may be sent to the Church of the Good Shepherd; Hospice Plus, 807 8 Street, Suite 304, Wichita Falls, Texas; or the Wichita Falls Food Bank.
