Paul Alton Dickerson

Paul Alton Dickerson, 89, of Beaverdam, Virginia passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2025.

Paul was born in Washington, D.C., to the late Milton and Mary Dickerson. The family later moved to Virginia, where he graduated from Stafford High School in 1954. In 1960, Paul married the love of his life, Cacky, and together they built a beautiful life.

In 1970, Paul began what would become a 50-year career with Fire-X, where he earned the admiration and respect of colleagues and friends alike. He also dedicated much of his time as a volunteer with the Beaverdam Fire Department, the Ashland Rescue Squad, and later the West Hanover Rescue Squad, serving his community with selflessness and pride.

Paul had a deep love for music and especially enjoyed playing the guitar. He used this gift to serve the Lord, playing and singing in the choirs at Zion Christian Church and Riverside Baptist Church, where he remained a devoted member until his passing. His church meant so much to him, and he deeply missed being there when illness kept him away.

Another of Paul's passions was gardening. He grew abundant, beautiful gardens and joyfully shared the fruits of his harvest with his church family, a gesture that reflected his generous and giving spirit.

He is survived by his wife of 65 yrs, Lois Carolyn "Cacky" Dickerson; his daughter, Paula Renay Draper; his grandchildren, Jacob Joines, Caleb Joines (Jaylene) and Savannah Draper; his great- grandchildren Cullen Joines and "JJ" Joines; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Susan Draper.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. on August 30, 2025 at Riverside Baptist Church, 20057 Teman Rd, Beaverdam, VA 23015. A reception will follow the funeral service in the multipurpose building next to the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be sent to Riverside Baptist Church in Memory of Paul.
