Paul A. Manzi, beloved son, brother, adored uncle, godfather, and friend passed away in the early morning hours on Monday, March 10, 2025, at the age of 82. Born and raised in Beverly, Paul was the 9th of 10 children born to the late Orest and Jennie (DeVito) Manzi. He was a graduate of Beverly High School Class of 1960 and graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology. Paul was a proud veteran who served in the Navy's Seabees Construction Battalion during the Vietnam war. As a former veteran, he regularly and generously donated to various charitable organizations benefiting his fellow veterans. Prior to, and then after his Naval service, Paul worked with his brothers at their family owned and operated Concrete Foundation Construction Company, O.Manzi & Sons. He later went on to work for the Beverly Housing Authority.
Paul was born and lived for over 50 years in the house his family built on Jewett Road, which his niece Alaine eventually bought and still lovingly maintains. This allowed Paul to enjoy a peaceful 11-year residency on beautiful Piper Pond in Abbott, Maine before once again returning to his Beverly roots.
Paul was an avid sports fan with a deep-seeded love for baseball. He was something of an anomaly, being that rare species who simultaneously rooted for both the Boston Red Sox and the NY Yankees. Among all of Paul's many interests, he will be fondly remembered as an aficionado of true-blue country music, Budweiser beer, New England lobster rolls, fried clams, and all things sugary and sweet. He also never met a scratch ticket he didn't love. Paul was truly cherished by all who knew him. Which is why his passing will be forever associated with the Thomas Campbell quote, "To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die." Paul continues to live in all of our hearts.
Paul was predeceased by his parents; three sisters - Frances Lovasco, Esther Corio, and Ann Manzi; and four brothers - Joseph Manzi, James Manzi, Orest G. Manzi Jr, and Alfred Manzi. He is survived by his two sisters - Irene Ball of Nashua, NH. Joanne Pennington and her husband Sam of Vero Beach, FL, with whom Paul shared a close brotherly bond. He also leaves his brother-in-law, Sebastian Lovasco as well as innumerable nieces and nephews (plus great nieces and nephews) and cousins. All of whom were very special to him. Also a huge thank you to his devoted earth angel and caregiver, Paula Murphy, whose compassionate, caring nature, and wicked sense of humor was a great comfort to him in his final years. Watching the two of them navigate through Paul's health concerns was truly a sight to behold. They were unstoppable, to say the least.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 253 Cabot Street, Beverly, on Saturday, March 22nd at 11am. Prior to the funeral Mass, a one-hour visitation will be held at the church from 10am to 11am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Beverly. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Paul's memory to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements by the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly.
