Pauline Jeannette Eychaner, aged 97, of Anacortes, was called home to God on October 11, 2024. Born on June 7, 1927, in Central Falls, Rhode Island, she was the daughter of Adrien and Jeanette Blanchett and sister to Annette.
Pauline faced many challenges in her life, losing her mother at a young age and being raised by her father alongside her sister. Despite these hardships, Pauline always persevered and overcame life's obstacles.
She built her home in Anacortes on West 5th in the mid-80s with a community project called Self Help. She and eight other friends built each other's houses, with their own hands.
Pauline worked at a local bank, as a teller for 30 years – the bank changed ownership several times over while she worked there, from the Bank of Anacortes to Olympic Bank, to First Interstate and to Horizon Bank. Wells Fargo now occupies the bank building where Horizon bank was.
At a young age of 61, Pauline scored a job with the Washington State Ferries! She felt like she hit the Lottery. Although the bank was very reluctant to let her go, she was determined to work at the Washington Ferries until her retirement age of 79. She sold tickets at the Anacortes Dock and she loved her job. She could be seen there with her dog in the booth, her hot rod 007 James Bond T-Bird 2003 and the line that moved 2x as fast as any other.
Pauline has always been a contributor to the Salvation Army, Shriners and to various animal related charities. Animals and family were her passion. She could always been seen walking her dogs around the neighborhood and socializing with the neighbors.
Pauline was a devoted Catholic and loved Jesus. She never prayed for things for herself just for healing and wellbeing of others. Pauline was always willing to help family or friends when she saw they needed a boost. Pauline was tough but kind, loving, honest to a fault and the most dependable person one could ever meet. To her grandson, she was his best friend, though she is the Matriarch to five generations. He could confide in her and she always managed to turn the problems he saw as a blessing in disguise by sharing her perspective on his situations.
She loved her home, her family, her life and everything in it. Even after her aortic tear, she kept smiling and loving every day looking at the bright side.
Pauline was preceded in death by her parents and sister Annette. She is survived by her children. Luther Gerald (Virginia) Power and Cassandra (Michael Marchese); grandchildren: Donald "Tony" Bower (Leah Szenasi), Shelle (Tate Green), Jenna (Terry Undestad), Audrey Allard (Scott Callahan), Stacy Jo (Cory Vincent) and Joe (Kari) Marchese; great grandchildren: Alanna (Luis Verdin), Alyssa Bower, Travis and Tiffany Undestad, Mikell Green, Sam and Issac Marchese, Violet and Benny Callahan; great-great grands: Gabe, Ayden, Nicco Verdin, Ravina Bower, and Paulina Verdin.
