Peggy Ann (Boxwell) Mahank beloved wife, mother, grandmother, age 82 of Mishawaka passed away peacefully Sunday September 5, 2022, surrounded by her husband and children.
Peggy was born in South Bend, Indiana on August 30, 1940, to the late Helen Liggett and Lloyd Boxwell.
On August 4, 1962 in St. Matthews Cathedral she married Charles R. Mahank who survives her. They were just able to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary! She is also survived by her sister, Josephine (Cliff - deceased) Witkowsk and brother in-law and sister-in-law, Larry & Elaine Holmes.
Also surviving are her children, Tracy (Howard) Meltzer, Bob Mahank, Pam (Tony) Brown, and Shelly (Bill) Taylor; by her many loving grandchildren, Lauren & Stephanie Meltzer, Audrey, Chris, & Joe Mahank, Samantha, Mya (David Vandiver) and Kayla Brown, Aaron & Caden Taylor; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she dearly loved.
Peggy was a graduate of Riley High School where she was a cheerleader, a member of Phi Alpha Nu Chapter, and crowned Queen of the Sweetheart Ball. She worked as a bookkeeper at M.O. Wolfe & Co. and Murray- Harding until she retired to become a full time homemaker after moving to the family farm. She continued to use her bookkeeping skills for the family business until her passing. Highlights of her retirement were wintering in FL, spending time with her family & friends, attending all of her grandchildren's events (choir concerts, musicals, band concerts, sporting events, and school events).
Peggy was a terrific dancer (winning many contests in her youth), a trick water skier performing in ski shows on Simonton Lake, an avid reader, talented seamstress (making her own clothes, her children's clothes, and their doll and Barbie clothes), a member of the F.O.P. Lodge 36 Ladies Auxiliary and was a Campfire Girl Leader & Cub Scout Den Mother. She enjoyed leading "tours" for elementary school children taking a field trip to the farm. She took pride in maintaining the picturesque family homestead.
She enjoyed antiquing, playing cards with her bridge group (who continued to get together for numerous years), shopping in Shipshewana, collecting salt cellars, shells, and depression glass, and spending time with family and friends.
Peggy was a faithful, kind and caring person, always putting others first. If you met her she was your friend. Her biggest joy in life was being able to support her husband, children, and grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Sunday, September 11, 2022, from 2 pm-6 pm at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka with a rosary to be recited at 5 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 am, Monday, September 12, 2022, at St. Bavo Catholic Church, 511 W. 7th Street, Mishawaka.
Donations can be made to charities she supported (homeless shelters, Food Pantry and St. Bavo Catholic Church).

My dear Mahank´s, my sincere & deepest sympathies. I was shocked to no end to hear about Peggy. I have found God does what He wants & leaves us to muddle, grieve, & carry on with life. But God doesn´t make any mistakes, we know that. It´s hard to accept though. Just no you are in my thoughts & prayers & im sending all my love. I am in Fl for the winter & will not be able to attend any services for your loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother & one of MY very best friend. Love & prayers y to o all Love ya, Pat Thompson
