Peter Alden Vaughan, age 78, of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2025, in Tulsa.
Peter was born on April 30, 1947, in Massachusetts to John and Arvilla Vaughan. In 1962, he and his family moved to Norman, Oklahoma, where he graduated from Norman High School in 1965. He later attended the University of Oklahoma, where he continued to pursue his love of learning and exploration.
Peter was a man of wide-ranging interests and quiet depth. He had a lifelong appreciation for history, books, and the natural world. He was an avid snow skier in his younger years and found great joy in working with his hands-whether building, fixing, or creating. His curiosity and craftsmanship reflected his thoughtful and independent spirit.
Peter was preceded in death by his parents, John and Arvilla Vaughan of Norman, OK, and his brother-in-law, Charles VanDuker of Cabot, AR.
He is survived his wife Sherry, of the home, daughters, Vesper Grantham and husband Tim of Edmond, OK, and Mariah Baker and husband Wes of Murfreesboro, TN; step-children, Michaela Holman, of Okmulgee, OK, and Russell Holman of Manford, OK; brother, Eric Vaughan and wife Cindy of Dallas, OR; sisters, Christine VanDuker of Cabot, AR, and Mary Cox and husband Howard of Winmalee, New South Wales, Australia; as well as two grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews who will carry fond memories of his gentle humor and creative spirit.
Peter's life was one marked by curiosity, craftsmanship, and quiet devotion to those he loved. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.
