Philip Andrew Rodriguez, 55, passed away on April 6, 2022 surrounded by his family, after fighting a valiant battle with brain cancer. Phil was born on June 23, 1966, in Ogden, Utah, the son of Homer and Bessie Martinez Rodriguez.
He attended Plain City Elementary School, Wahlquist Jr. High and graduated from Weber High School in 1984. Following graduation, Phil completed Police Officer Standards and Training in Draper, Utah.
Phil was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He married his sweetheart LuAnn Hooker on June 19, 2003, in the Salt Lake Temple.
Phil was very passionate about making the community a safer place. He served for over 23 years as a Law Enforcement Officer in Adult Probation and Parole. Because of his exceptional skills, he was chosen to be a member of the Joint Criminal Apprehension Team (JCAT) and Deputized with the US Marshals Service. The world is a safer place because of him. Throughout his career in Law Enforcement, Phil made many lifelong friendships.
He was a big sports fan. He loved watching baseball and Ohio State Football. Phil was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing and spending time in the mountains. There were many fun memories made with his wife and children especially at Red Canyon Lodge at Flaming Gorge. They will truly miss all the good times that were spent together as a family. Phil enjoyed watching and playing basketball with his son Andrew. He was a proud dad as he watched his daughter Bailey's dance competitions through the years. He was his children's biggest cheerleader.
He was known as the jokester always providing comic relief to those around him. Phil loved to have a good time with his family and friends. Above all else, he was an amazing husband and father and will be dearly missed.
Phil is survived by his wife LuAnn, children Andrew and Bailey, his mother Bessie Rodriguez and brother Joe Rodriguez.
Phil was preceded in death by his father Homer Rodriguez.
The family would like to thank Dr. Joe Mendez for striving to help Phil beat the odds of cancer for far longer than expected. As well as a special thanks to the rest of Huntsman Cancer Institute team for all their amazing care of Phil and our family.

LuAnn, children Andrew and Bailey,
Phil was a great man!
Many of Phil's friends were recipients of his many good natured gags. He liked Barney Fife memorabilia. He once kidnapped and held hostage a large Barney Fife thermometer. He returned it once he received the ransom of a chocolate apple fritter. Pay back for this kidnapping finally came when we happened to see Phil going through a car wash in Centerville. We called him and told him a fugitive was running from Centerville PD and we needed him to quickly respond. He told us he was already in Centerville. We told him to not joke around because the fugitive was dangerous and running from Target and was just outside a carwash. After some bantering about his location, we updated him on the fugitive´s location, which conveniently was outside the carwash. Just as he was about to exit the car in the middle of a carwash cycle we stopped him. He took it well.
We learned to be careful with what we asked him to do because he would ALWAYS follow through with the assignment even though it may have resulted in missing personal obligations.
We will miss you Phil.
