Philip Eugene Walko passed away peacefully at his home in Indian Land, SC on Wednesday January 22, 2025, at the age of 84. Born in York, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Joseph and Twila Markalonis Walko. Phil spent his childhood and school-age years in DuBois, Pennsylvania where he graduated from DuBois High School. He proudly served in the US Air Force and attended University of Maryland after his discharge, earning his Bachelors degree in Psychology. He was a long-time resident of Thurmont, Maryland. He was a quality manager at IBM and Lockheed Martin until his retirement. He spent time as a member of the Thurmont Sertoma Club, on the Board of Directors at Jeanne Buzzard Workshop in Frederick, and served on the Police Commissioners board in Thurmont.
Phil had many interests, including music, playing cards and hunting. He was a self-taught drummer, guitarist and singer. He enjoyed music whether he was choosing a playlist for his weekend pool parties, playing with friends, or listening to a live band. He greatly enjoyed the time he spent with friends and family sharing great conversation and many laughs. He was a devoted husband to Mary (Mulgrew) Walko. After being childhood sweethearts, they shared 63 happy years together. He was a loving father and will be forever cherished and remembered by Janice Walko, Lorraine Clark (Mike), Katie Hylton (Charles). He was a proud grandfather to Ava Clark, Ellis Hylton and Mitchell Hylton. He is also survived by siblings, Joe Walko (Linda), Rosemary Frizzell (Arlie), Marilyn Joffe (Steve) and Suncha Walko as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Ed Walko.
