Rex L. Cassady went to be with his Lord on Friday, February 27, 2026. He was born on July 19, 1935 in Marion, Indiana. He was the son of the late Robert N. and Ina M. Ferguson Cassady.

Rex lived in Marion for 34 years. He graduated from Marion High School in 1952 and immediately started working for Indiana Michigan Electric Company, a subsidiary of American Electric Power Company as draftsman. He served in the U.S Air Force and after rejoining I &M in 1959 he took a leave of absence and entered Purdue University. He continued there except for a short time when he was called back into the Air Force in 1962 for the Cuban Crisis. He graduated from Purdue with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1964. He went back to I&M advancing through various engineering and management positions in Indiana and Michigan. He was promoted to various positions in Appalachian Power Company and finally promoted to Director of Distribution in American Electric Power in Columbus, Ohio. Retirement was in 2000 with 48 years of service in the AEP System.

He was a member of the Purdue Alumni Association, NRA, a Registered Professional Engineer in Indiana, Michigan, and Virginia and a lifetime member of the Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers. He has been a member of Lion Clubs, Kiwanis Clubs, YMCA and fitness clubs at the various locations where he worked. He was a member of the Stoney Point Golf Club in Greenwood, SC and has been an avid golfer, tennis player, jogger and bicyclist. He has served on various Boards of Directors, including Child Evangelism Fellowship, United Ministries, AEP Retirees of The Carolinas, Hospital Board and Stoney Point Property Owner's Association. He has been active in a church at every location where he has lived. He is a member of South Main Baptist Church in Greenwood, SC where he lived for 20 years.

He was married to Roma J. Ladd from 1954 to 1962. He was married to Phyllis A. Pattison from 1965 until her death in 2017. He remarried Roma after finding her in Texas and they have lived in Laurens, SC.

Rex is survived by his wife Roma and a cousin, Richard Cashman, of The Villages, Florida.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Wanda Beck, of Marion, Indiana.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at Martha Franks Retirement Community.

Burial will take place in the Garden of Memory Cemetery, near Marion, Indiana.

In Lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, or the National Eye Institute- Glaucoma.
