Richard M. Allison Jr., age 88, passed away Sunday, June 22, 2025, at his residence on Magnolia Road, in Cochran. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at 11:30 A.M. in Westview Baptist Church in Hawkinsville. The family will greet friends after the service at the church. Burial will be private.
Richard, born in Americus, GA, was the son of the late Richard Manson "Dick", Sr. and Erline Ferguson Allison. Shortly after, he moved to Clovis, New Mexico where he lived like a real-life cowboy. At the age of 5 he moved back to Cochran in 1942 when his father purchased the old Peacock Farm. He lived all the rest of his days on that farm.
Richard graduated from Cochran High School in 1953 and then UGA in 1963 with a history major. In between those years he enlisted in the Air Force and served four years. After UGA he came home to help his father on the farm. Drought forced him to seek employment at Robins Air Force Base where he retired after 29 years. He retired with the sole purpose of being the chief guardian of his first grandson, John-Thomas.
Richard volunteered his time selflessly to Boy Scouts, teaching Sunday School, and 4H shooting sports. He and Angie taught the College and Career Sunday School class for 20 years. He is most remembered and treasured for his time with the 4-H shooting sports. He volunteered for 30 years in this sport. His passion was teaching young people how to be safe and accurate with a gun.
He was an active member of the Hawkinsville Rotary Club as well as the Mount Hope #9 Masonic Lodge F&AM. Richard was a member of Westview Baptist Church for 19 years at the time of his death.
Richard is survived by his wife of 58 years, Angie; his son Richard (Stephanie) Allison; two daughters Julie (Daniel) Mullis and Katie (Matt) Robertson; his grandchildren are Amy and Chris Allison, John-Thomas and Samuel Mullis, and Jaylin and Caleb Robertson; his sister Anne (Don) MacMillan of Tampa FL.
In lieu of flowers please consider donations to the Gideons International, PO Box 95, Cochran, GA 31014 or the Georgia Baptist Children's Home, 9250 Hutcheson Ferry Rd, Palmetto, GA 30268
