Mr. Richard Harold Barfield, age 72, of Thomaston, died Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at Upson Regional Medical Center with family and friends at his bedside.

Memorial services for Mr. Barfield will be Saturday, November 8th, 2025, at 4:00 PM in the chapel of Coggins Funeral Home, with visitation 1 hour before the service.

Mr. Barfield was born on August 16, 1953, at Upson County Hospital and grew up in the Thurston Community. He received his Eagle Scout badge along with friends Andy Daniel and Jimmy Matthews in Troop 39. Richard graduated from R.E. Lee Institute, the University of Georgia, and Georgia State University. He had degrees in both Psychology and Nursing. He worked for Brawner Psychiatric Hospital and Haven House Hospice in Atlanta.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold E. Barfield, his mother, Lannis Peterman Barfield, and his brother, Phil Barfield.

Richard is survived by his brother, Mark Barfield of Pascagoula, MS, niece, Sommer Sage and her husband Jessie of Mobile, AL, and his nephew Mark Barfield of Mobile, AL, and several cousins.

Richard will be remembered as a kind, sensitive, and loyal man to his friends. He enjoyed travel, photography, camping, and music.
