Richard DeMilia, of Amherst, NH, formerly a longtime resident of Stow, passed away September 16, 2024 at his home. He was the beloved husband of Jean M. (Carbone) DeMilia to whom he was married for 69 years.
Mr. DeMilia was born at home in Belmont in 1930, son of the late Giocondo and Maria (Maffucci) DeMilia. He was a graduate of the Belmont Schools and upon graduation enlisted and served honorably in the United States Army where he was stationed in Panama. After his discharge, Mr. DeMilia attended Northeastern University where he received a degree in mechanical engineering. He spent many years working for the United States Government and for many years was a high-ranking civilian working as an engineer at Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford.
The DeMilia family lived in Littleton for a time before making their home in Stow for many years where they would raise their children. Mr. DeMilia was especially active in the Stow Lions Club and liked to keep busy serving his community. He had a passion for woodworking and furniture making, gifting many of his accomplishments to family and friends. He was an avid Red Sox and Bruins fan and enjoyed watching all the games on television. He liked spending time outside whether it was in the garden or bird watching. More than anything, family was the most important. He treasured the time he spent with his wife, children and grandchildren all of whom will miss him dearly.
Mr. DeMilia is lovingly survived by his wife Jean (Carbone) DeMilia. His children: Richard DeMilia Jr. and his wife Beverley, Janice Bock and her husband Robert, David DeMilia, Gail Foley and her husband Michael and Michael DeMilia and his wife Michelle. He was the loving grandfather of 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Sadly, he was predeceased by his son Robert DeMilia and his grandson Michael DeMilia.
Services for Mr. DeMilia will be held privately.
Remembrances may be made in Richard's memory to the Stow Lions Club, PO Box 5, Stow, MA 01775.
