Richard B Fobar, age 93 of Allen Park and formally of River Rouge and Lake Alfred Florida died peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his family passed away on November 25 after battling dementia and lung cancer
Richard was born on March 5, 1932 in Detroit Michigan to Rosalie Fobar. He was raised by his grandparents Myrtle and Frank Fobar. Rich graduated from River Rouge High School in 1950 and then entered the United States Army to fight in the Korean War in the motor pool as instructor of Auto repair and field maintenance for the South Korea Army. Richard was stationed on Wolmido Island in South Korea.
Rich is survived by his wife, Susan and his children Michael Sr (Kandy Roy), Rene Fobar, Ricarda Thomson, Kimberlee (Charles) Cwiek and Scott (Donn) Fobar along with his many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his great great grandchildren. He is also survived his brother in law, Patrick Woolley and by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Fobar, 2001, his children, Siena Emery and Neal Fobar, his son-in-law Bruce Thomson Sr., and his two grandsons, Michael Fobar Jr and Jonathan Fobar, as well as his mother Rosalie Stamm, his father, Elmer Heyer, his grandparents, Myrtle and Frank Fobar and all of his 31,828 relatives that he connected with through his passion of genealogy and ancestry.com.
He was a welder on the Mackinac Bridge as well as the Edmund Fitzgerald Ship. He work for Whitehead and Kales until an injury sidelined him. After recovery he entered college and received his degree in Commerce. He then took a position with the federal government as a field supervisor for the Green Thumb program.
Richard was a lifetime member of our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, where he was always seen doing odd jobs around the parish. He was truly a servant of the Lord and led by example. Rich was very involved in the VFW and held many positions. He was a founding member of the River Rouge Golf League and was an Auxiliary Police officer for over 25 years.
Rich's life-long passion was genealogy but he had many other hobbies including Golf, camping, logic problems books, and card games with Pinochle, Euchre and Cribbage as his favorites. He loved scuba diving, horseback riding, sailing, and treasure hunting. He study ships in the Great Lakes and was recognized for his vast knowledge.
Visitation for Richard will take place at Voran Funeral Home, 5900 Allen Road in
Allen Park, Michigan on Friday, November 28, 2025 from 3:00PM till 8:00PM. There will be a rosary at 7PM. He will then be taken to St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church on Saturday, November 29, 2025 where he will lay in state beginning at 9:30am with a Mass of Resurrection at 10:00AM.
Richard will be buried at Great Lakes National Cemetery on Monday, December 1, 2025 promptly at 9:30am with full honors.
