It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Lee Hoffman, 87, who peacefully departed this life on October 19, 2024, at Tidewell Hospice in Lakewood Ranch, Florida.
Richard was preceded in death by his beloved father, Charles E. Hoffman; mother, Hazel Jenkins Hoffman; brother, John Hoffman; and his eldest son, Anthony Lee Hoffman. He leaves behind a loving family, including his devoted wife of 35 years, Patricia Ann (nee Hain) Hoffman; daughter Lorena Grogan (Timothy) of East Falmouth, MA; son Richard Hoffman (Zula) of Mickleton, NJ; daughter Dianne Gordon of Issaquah, WA; and son Lee Hoffman (Karen) of Ridley Park, PA. He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren: Natalie Grogan of Charleston, SC; Brigid Stoll (Thomas) of East Falmouth, MA; Colleen Grogan of Boston, MA; Rebecca Solem of Issaquah, WA; Rachel Solem of Issaquah, WA; Nicole Hoffman of Mickleton, NJ; and great-grandson Sebastian Solem of Issaquah, WA, along with numerous cousins and dear friends.
Richard's professional journey began at Mobil Research and Development, where he started as a test car driver at just 17. His hard work and dedication led him through various roles, culminating in his position as Plant Projects Manager, from which he retired after 45 years in 2000. Not one to rest, he continued his career as a Project Manager at D.J. Ververelli, Inc. in Philadelphia, applying his extensive knowledge and experience to projects throughout the Delaware Valley.
A proud graduate of Paulsboro High School's class of 1954, Richard pursued further education, earning an associate's degree in management from Camden County College, a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Rowan University, and an MBA in Construction Management from Drexel University. His passion for learning led him to acquire licenses and certifications in real estate and marine navigation, including a U.S. Coast Guard Master License.
Richard served in the Army National Guard from 1954, proudly earning the rank of Staff Sergeant before his honorable discharge in 1965. His faith in God was a cornerstone of his life, and he was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Bradenton, where he believed in giving back to the community.
His commitment to helping children was evident through his leadership as President of the Board of Trustees for Durand and Robin's Nest, where he received the Inspiration Award in 2003 and multiple commendations for his outstanding service. Richard dedicated countless hours to various organizations in Gloucester County, leaving a lasting impact on his community.
Known for his love of construction and remodeling, Richard transformed homes into inviting spaces in both Bridgeport, NJ, and
Bradenton, FL. His true joy, however, was found on the water. Boating since the age of 15, he cherished every moment spent on the waves, whether in a small aluminum boat or a 45-foot Sea Ray. In the colder months, he enjoyed hunting, finding solace in the great outdoors.
