Richard Barton Rogers, 80, passed away on May 17, 2023. He was born to Richard Paul Rogers and Evelyn Devi Rogers, He was an older brother to sister Candi Rogers Beswick. They lived for several years in the back house (a small 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom) while they built their bigger 3 bedroom house on Reese Street in Burbank, CA.
He and his sister Candi spent a lot of their early childhood at the beach. Their dad would surf and he and Candi and Devi would "mattress surf" in Doheny. Being around water was a big part of their lives.
He graduated from Burroughs Burbank High School in 1960. After high school, he got a job at Technicolor doing film editing from 1960 to 1974. On weekends and evenings, he worked at Curtis Craft building race boats. In 1974 he moved to Houston, Texas, and started a real estate sign printing business which eventually turned into a bottle silk screening business that he continued throughout his lifetime. His love of race boats had him building boats in his spare time and he sold Curtis Craft from his Houston shop.
He married Nancy Ellen Bloss, from Burbank, CA in 1964, they had one son, Matthew Raymond Rogers. In 1974, he married his second wife, Bonnie in Burbank, CA; they had no children. He married again in 1988 to Beverly Bunch from Houston, TX they had two children Clayton Chip Rogers and Amy Lynnette Rogers. In 2011, He married Shirley P. Brown.
He is survived by his spouse Shirley P. Rogers, daughter Amy Rogers of Coldsping, TX, son Matthew Rogers and wife Sarah Rogers of Los Angeles, CA, and son Chip Rogers and his wife Jennifer Rogers of Montgomery, TX along with six grandchildren; Sean Rogers, Abbey (Kevin) Lennon, Summer Rogers, Amelia Rogers, Benjamin Rogers, and Claudia Rogers and his sister Candi Beswick and her husband Keith Beswick of Granada Hills, CA.
In 2009, he devoted his life in service to our Lord and became a member of Fellowship of Montgomery. He was very passionate about the Kairos Ministry, a prison ministry. He enjoyed attending his kid's baseball and softball games, and in the past, he was a little league coach for many years. In more recent years he contributed to his son Matt and grandson Sean's drag boat race team. He loved spending the weekends at the races and helping tune the boats.
