Richard Daniel Thacker, 58, passed away on 4/23/2025 in Raeford, NC after a short battle with cancer. Born on August 10, 1966, in Man, West Virginia, Richard lived a life marked by dedication to his work, deep love for his family, and a warm spirit that left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Richard was the store manager at O'Reilly Auto Parts in Hope Mills, North Carolina. Known for his strong work ethic and reliability, he took pride in his role and the relationships he formed with coworkers and customers alike. His ability to connect with people was one of his most defining traits - he never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone.
Outside of work, Richard found joy in simple pleasures. He was an avid deer hunter who appreciated the outdoors. Antiquing and visiting flea markets were favorite pastimes. A devoted football fan, he rarely missed a game. Above all else, Richard cherished vacationing with his family - those moments of togetherness were among his most treasured.
Richard's life was deeply rooted in family. Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of nearly 24 years, Jennifer Thacker; son, Chris (Crystal) Thacker; daughter, Kiley Hayslett; sisters Gloria (Jim) Lester, Judy (Jim) Elswick, and Teresa Thacker; brothers Perry Thacker and Brian (Carol) Thacker. As well as, several neices and nephews. His presence will also be missed by special friends Esther Miranda, Chad Neal and Tim Kelly.
He was preceded in death by his father Grover Thacker, mother Arretta Thacker; brother Grover Thacker Jr; sisters Gladys Cox, and Sandra Stewart; and nephew Jonathan "Jon Jon" Lester.
Those who knew Richard will remember him as someone who worked hard, loved deeply, and always had time for a friendly word. His memory will live on through the many lives he touched.
Memorial services will be arranged at a later date in Oak Hill, West Virginia for family and friends.
