Robbie Schell, Sr., 73, of Lykens, passed away on Wednesday morning, December 17, 2025 at his home.
Rob was born in Lykens, on March 21, 1952, the son of the late Claude Schell and Mildred Minnich Schell. He was a 1970 graduate of Upper Dauphin Area High School and a 1972 graduate of Thaddeus Stevens Trade School.
For 51 years as the leaves began to change in the Lykens Valley chances are you would find Rob at the Little Tigers football field. He not only loved the game but had a true respect for everything it stood for... discipline, teamwork, dedication and commitment. During the the 51 years he spent coaching, his philosophy centered around training young men to be upstanding citizens and well rounded adults. According to Rob, "An active youth does not get in trouble!"
As he raised his three sons with Valerie, his wife of 53 years his commitment to the youth in our area was evident. Through his years as a youth group leader for the Lykens United Methodist Church to the time spent mentoring young men in the Lykens Cub Scouts as Assistant Scout Master and Webelos leader Rob spent countless hours giving back to the community he loved so much.
Rob continued to volunteer as his boys grew. Coaching Little League for many years and eventually watching his grandsons and granddaughters play on the same fields his sons grew up playing on. One of his greatest accomplishments was his part in coordinating and installing the lights at the L&W Field and the Lykens Little League Field.
After being raised during his formative high school years by his grandparents he received a free education at Thaddeus Stevens Technical School becoming an electrician. Using his education as an opportunity to pay it forward he loved doing free electrical work for organizations, friends and family. He was proud of the 43 years he spent as a construction electrician for PP&L, traveling to various power plants and substations. This put him in contact with many new people and many new friends. He spoke fondly of the time he spent with his coworkers and truly enjoyed his work.
As time progressed and Dad turned into Pappy, his grandchildren knew he would travel far and wide to see games, concerts, military send-offs and graduations. Never missing an opportunity to let his grandkids know how proud he was of each and every one.
In addition to his parents and grandparents, Claude R. and Anna Schell, he was preceded in death by his brother Todd David Schell, December 13, 2022.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Valerie Bingaman Schell. His three sons; Robbie Jr. and his wife Nicole of Elizabethville, Ethan and Tatum. Daniel and his wife Marcia of Lykens, Emilee, Tanner and Zachary. David and his wife Marilyn of New Oxford, Sophia. Sisters Rebecca Barrick, Duncannon, Lisa Forbes (Randy) Mechanicsburg, Melonie Wingert, Dalmatia, Heidi Greider (Spencer), Klingerstown.
