Robert "Bob" Bergquist, a beacon of love and selflessness, passed away unexpectedly on August 5, 2024. He was 77.
Loving husband to Gail E. Bergquist of Pembroke. Cherished father to Courtney Greene (Dave Greene) of Amsterdam, Brittany Bergquist of Chestnut Hill, and Rob Bergquist of Alpharetta, GA. Bob is also survived by his dearly loved siblings, William Bergquist (Jeanie Bergquist) of Dennis, MA, Sandra Carmichael of Arlington, MA, and Linda Williamson of Cheshire, CT. He is predeceased by his father, Arvid Bergquist and mother, Dorothy Bergquist. Bob also leaves behind cherished sisters and brothers in law, many loved nieces and nephews, and innumerable incredible friends.
Bob leaves behind a legacy of love and adventure that touched the hearts of all who knew him. He thrived for knowledge and went forward to proudly earn a Masters Degree from Bridgewater State University.
Bob dedicated his early life to the noble profession of teaching, shaping the minds and futures of countless students with his exciting approaches to science. He can be remembered in classrooms in Cohasset, Hull, Newton, and finally and most recently at Norwell Middle School teaching 7th grade.
When he wasn’t in the classroom he could be found running the town softball league so his girls had a way to play, coaching the high school JV softball team, or cheering on his son at his soccer and hockey games. He never missed an opportunity to support his kids, and was always so proud of their accomplishments.
In retirement he loved traveling, and went on so many adventures with his wife and children. He and Gail spent winters in Naples, FL where he could be found on the pickleball courts. His heart lived for the ocean, and the family felt the most joy on trips to the BVI where Bob captained a sailboat and directed the family to run like a well oiled machine. He was truly a man who could do anything.
Above all, Bob cherished his family and children, creating countless memories in their beloved house in Wolfeboro, NH. His life was deeply rooted in making the most of every day and being surrounded by family and friends, where laughter and love were abundant.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Bob would describe him as loving, kind, and selfless. His actions spoke volumes of his character, as he lived a life devoted to the well-being of others. Bob's legacy will continue to inspire and influence everyone he encountered.
Bob Bergquist's memory will be treasured as a guiding light of compassion and humanity. His departure is not an end but a celebration of a life extraordinarily well-lived.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Bob's funeral service on Wednesday at 11 AM in McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main St. (Rt. 18 opp. South Shore Hospital). There will be a chance to greet the family after the funeral service, and all are welcome to a collation at Weathervane immediately following (117 Clubhouse Dr, Weymouth, MA 02190).
In lieu of flowers, the family graciously would appreciate donations to the family’s nonprofit, Cell Phones for Soldiers. *Donate Here*
