Our loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Bob Block, passed away September 2, 2024 at the age of 85. Bob was born in Bay City, Michigan to the late Aloysius and Hazel Block. Bob married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, formerly, Jill McCollum at Visitation Church on May 28, 1960. She preceded him in death January 30, 2022.
Bob was hardworking and dedicated a lot of his time with General Motors, where he eventually retired from Bay City Chevrolet. In addition to his time at GM, he owned and operated Block's Marina, a cherished family business he ran with pride from 1962-2018. He was more than a hardworking man, Bob was an outdoorsman who found joy in hunting, fishing, and exploring nature, especially over the Saginaw River where he and Jill loved to watch the wildlife out of their back door or along the river with family, taking boat rides to the Saginaw Bay or further. He had a unique hobby of collecting junk off the side of the road as well as thousands of bobbers he found floating along the river, often with his granddaughters at hand, each bobber being a small treasured memory in his vast collection. Bob's generosity and quick wit made him easy to love wherever he went. He was a regular at Krzysiak's Restaurant and often took family with him. Always ready to lend a hand, whether through his frequent blood donation or the care he had for his loved ones. Bob's warmth and kindness touched everyone. Most of all, his family meant the most to him and was his greatest treasure.
He is survived by Children: Lisa Tharpe, Ken Block, and Amy Jo (Harold) Block-Rosenbrock; seven grandchildren: Nykole (Ryan), Brytni "Brytsi Boo", Devin, Sara, Wendy, Jazmynn "Jazzy", Raegyn,; and 1 great-grandchild, Raeynn; special friend, Joy Billette and his best bud and fur baby, Lacie. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his best friend and wife, Jill Block; two grandbabies, Bryen and Jesyka; daughter-in-law, Anne Block; and several brothers and sisters.
Honoring Bob's wishes, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be celebrated at 6:00 PM, Saturday, September 21, 2024 at Squires Funeral Home, 211 N.
