Robert Earl Goldsmith was born on April 29, 1941, to the late Frank and Bennie Goldsmith in Monroe, Louisiana. He departed this life on December 30, 2023, at St. Francis Medical Center. Robert leaves behind a legacy enriched with faith, dedication, service, and brotherhood. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, James and Sammie Goldsmith.
Robert Goldsmith's, AKA "CHROME," educational journey began at Booker T. Elementary School. Robert graduated from Carroll High School in 1959, marking the completion of a significant chapter in his academic pursuits. Following his passion for music, he furthered his education at Grambling State University, showcasing his musical talent by playing in the university band. He not only broadened his intellectual horizons, but also cemented his commitment to brotherhood as a lifetime member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. His affiliation with the fraternity exemplified principles of manhood, scholarship, perseverance, and uplift. He leaves an indelible mark on the lives of his fraternity brothers and the community at large.
His commitment to shaping young minds led him to esteemed teaching positions within both the Monroe City school system and Morehouse Parish school system. He left an enduring impact on countless students.
From a young age, Robert's spiritual journey was deeply rooted in his faith. He accepted Christ into his heart and was baptized at Martin Temple C. M. E. Church, under the nurturing guidance of Reverend Sherman Davis. Throughout his life, his spiritual journey was further enriched by his relationship with his last pastor, Pastor Jessie Faye Manuel, who provided guidance and comfort in his final years.
Cherished memories of Robert will forever remain in the hearts of his loving wife of 52 years, Wilma Fletcher Goldsmith; sisters, Frankie and Lena; brothers, Isaac and Bobby; sons, Roderick Thomas of California, Roderick Goldsmith of Monroe, Louisiana, and Anthony Goldsmith (Danielle) Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; daughters, Jackie Thomas of California and the late Renea Thomas; seven grandchildren; and host of family members, friends, former students, fraternity brothers, and colleagues.
