Robert Halbach Jr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away surrounded by loved ones on July 31, 2024, at the age of 77. Robert was born on May 16, 1947, and was a longtime resident of Rochester Hills, MI.
Robert is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Halbach, and their daughter, Amanda (Alexandros) Nipirakis, as well as his first wife, Kathleen Sloan, and three children, Kristin (David) Cieslak, Andrea Halbach, and Paul (Dayna) Halbach. He was a devoted grandfather to Ashley (Joe) Ursini, Joshua (Airica) Cieslak, Jessica Cieslak, Izzabella Halbach, Kelsea (Halston) Tucker, and Jacob Halbach. He also had the joy of being a great-grandfather to Ryan Hessel, Carter Buddie, Aurora Ursini, Noah Cieslak, and Avonna Cieslak. Robert is further survived by his siblings Greg (Cindy) Halbach, Beth Halbach, and Sandy (Dean) Leonard, along with numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Robert was the son of the late Robert Sr. and the late Elizabeth Halbach.
Robert's life was a testament to his passions and his unwavering commitment to family and community. A devoted member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Rochester, MI, Robert joined the church choir at the age of 12 and continued to share his love for music throughout his life. His musical talents extended to singing in the Gilbert Jackson Chorale and performances as a guitarist at church and other various events.
His love for all things NASCAR and his engineering talents were evident throughout his distinguished career, which included 20 years at Chrysler and 20 years at General Motors. Robert's genius-level intellect and problem-solving skills were also apparent in his passion for building computers, helping others with anything that needed fixing, and his ability to tackle challenging puzzles with ease. He was a man of boundless curiosity.
Robert was known for his engaging conversations and his knack for making friends wherever he went. His generosity and willingness to help others were legendary, he was often seen lending a hand, whether it was fixing a fellow church member's car in the parking lot or offering his expertise to anyone in need. His legacy is one of kindness, skill, and an insatiable zest for life, but above all, his unwavering love and devotion to his cherished family.
Robert Halbach Jr. will be profoundly missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. May he rest in peace.
In addition to Robert's wishes to have a green burial, the family is asking that any flower arrangements be purchased in glass vases only in an effort to reduce the use of plastic and other non-recyclable waste.
A visitation will be held on Monday, August 5, 2024, from 2-8pm at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 8459 Hall Rd. (3blks. E. of Van Dyke) in Utica. Visitation will continue at the funeral home the following day, Tuesday, August 6, 2024, from 9am until the time of the funeral service at 10am. Additionally, the family will honor Robert's life with an additional memorial service that will be held at St. Philip's Episcopal church in Rochester at a later date, to be determined.
