Robert Joseph Hartmann, 86, of Mt. Vernon, IN passed away December 2, 2024 at Deaconess Gateway in Newburgh, IN. He was born on July, 11, 1938 to the late William and Anna (Folz) Hartmann of Mt. Vernon, IN.
Robert was a 1956 graduate of Mater Dei High School in Evansville. He was a sergeant in the 38th Infantry Division Army National Guard Battery B, 1st Battalion, 139th Artillery. He was a lifelong farmer in Posey County. Robert worked as a production rigger/crane operator at Babcock & Wilcox in the 1970's. He was a member of St. Phillip Catholic Church, the Eagles #1717, American Legion Post #5, and was on the bowling team for many years. Robert loved to watch sports and horse racing, as well as spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mary Ann (Welte) Hartmann; sisters, Dorothy Kissel, and Rita Hasenour; brothers, William Hartmann, and Donald Hartmann.
He is survived by his children, James Robert Hartmann (Mary), Carol Sue Irick, and Keith William Hartmann; grandchildren, Sydney Johnson (CJ), Quincy Irick, Zachary Irick, Ashley Perez (George), and Danny Hartmann; and great grandchildren, Rubie Perez, Rico Perez, and Luna Perez; sisters, Pauline Denning, and Mary Rexing; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 421 Mulberry St., Mt. Vernon, IN with Fr. Darnis officiating and burial to follow in St. Matthew Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, December 6, 2024 at the Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main St., Mt. Vernon, IN and from 9:00 am until 9:45 am at the funeral home on Saturday.
The family would like to give special thanks to Michelle Tyler for her loving care of Dad at home and beyond. Thank you to the amazing staff at Deaconess Gateway Cardiac/Renal Unit.
