Robert Lloyd Knutilla of Delta Township,
Passed away on May 25, 2022, at the age of 92, son of Carl and Signe (Erickson) Knutilla. Robert was born on December 9, 1929 in Ironwood, MI. He graduated from Ironwood high school class of 1947, and then received his civil engineering degree from Michigan Tech in 1951. Robert was a member of the first men's gymnastics team at Michigan Tech. In March of 1955 he married the love of his life Shirlee (Souders). Robert was involved with the Boy Scouts, and Kiwanis club. He enjoyed going to his cottage in Grayling which he helped build, golfing, wood working, and even made three doll houses from scratch.
Robert is survived by his wife of 67 years Shirlee; children: Margaret (Dick) Benkert, Thomas (Amy) Knutilla, and Susan (John) Gonsky; grandchildren: Stephanie (Matthew) Ross, Christopher Taylor, Alexandria (Justin) Smits, Lauren (Craig) Gradin, Carolyn (Eric) Smith, Ashley (Robert) Scott, Eden Knutilla, and Robert Knutilla; 9 great grandchildren; sister, Joann (Thomas) Badovski, and brother Marvin Knutilla. He is preceded in death by his parents, son David Knutilla, brothers Donald and Carl Knutilla, sisters-in-law Jean Knutilla and Ruth Knutilla, brother-in-law Richard Souders, and granddaughter Erin Taylor.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday June 11, 2022 – 12:00 p.m. with a visitation one hour prior to the service at Barrington Woods Condo Association Club House, 303 Barrington Circle, Lansing, MI 48917. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in the memory of Robert Knutilla to the Michigan Tech Fund, Michigan Technological University, 1400 Townsend Drive, Houghton, MI 49931-1295.
