Robert E. "Robbie" Morgan

Robert Eugene "Robbie" Morgan, 85, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 1, 2024 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He was born on July 21, 1938 in Lake Charles, to Dale and Cecelia (Guintard) Morgan. He is survived by his brothers, Harry "Pete" Morgan, Cris (Mary) Morgan, and sister-in-law, Claudette Morgan.
Those left to cherish his memory are: his five daughters with first wife Diana Morgan, Jan Thielen, Lisa Counce, Kristi (Larry) George, Denise (Todd) Perry, and Lee (Patrick) Robinson; step-daughters, Lisa Barse and Pam Quarles-Adams; grandchildren, Morgan Thielen, Carson (Caitlin) Thielen, John Colin Thielen, Graham Counce, Sarah George Skinner, Tate George, Nelson Turek, Chris Khoury, Olivia Khoury Moss (Brent), Natalie Khoury, Isabelle Barse, Alden Barse, Max Fruge, and Noah Sanders, numerous beloved nieces and nephews, great-grandchildren, and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Marian Materne Morgan, brother, Michael Morgan, and sons-in-law, Chad Thielen and Daryl Khoury.
Robbie lived a full life, and he loved every minute of it. He was gifted in academics and athletics, graduating president of his class from LaGrange Senior High School as Co-Valedictorian and Vice President of Student Council. He played football, ran track and was an outstanding all-around athlete. He received a full scholarship to McNeese State University for Engineering, and also received a full scholarship to Rice University for English and Writing but turned it down to attend law school.
He attended Louisiana State University Law School, where he obtained a Juris Doctor in 1968. He practiced with Nathan Cormie before joining the firm of Baggett, Hawsey, McClain and Morgan. In 1977 he went into practice with Scotty McClain and formed "McClain and Morgan." He obtained Emeritus status on the Board of Governors of the Louisiana Trial Lawyers Association and was active in the Southwest Louisiana Bar Association for many years. In 1978 he was elected president of the SWLBA and served on five occasions on the Association's executive committee. He was on the National Board of Trial Advocacy and certified in Civil Trial Advocacy.
In the fifty years that Robbie practiced law, starting as a personal injury attorney, he ultimately gravitated toward civil practice as his career progressed. He always relished in a truly interesting case and was always eager to help people. He encompassed decency, sincerity, and kindness in his occupation and in the way he lived his life.
Robbie worked hard and played hard too. He was a man in constant motion with a zest for life. While he was an avid gardener, and hunter, he was most at home in a boat with a rod in his hand. He loved hiking and camping and was a voracious reader. He wrote poetry, invented games and was a champion scrabble, backgammon, and poker player. He was an absolutely captivating storyteller and usually had his audience in stitches by the end of the story.
Robbie cherished his beloved wife Marian of 40 years. He loved her dearly and they traveled together and had many great adventures along the way. He was a wonderful father and adored his daughters. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were a source of immense joy and pride for Robbie. Although his family will miss him deeply, they will cherish his memory and hold dear the love and guidance that he provided them throughout the years.
A memorial gathering in celebration of Robbie's life will be held at 5:00 pm on Monday, June 10 in the Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles Chapel, 4321 Lake Street, Lake Charles, Louisiana. Visitation will also be held at the funeral home, on the same day, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
