Robert A. Vater

Robert "Bob" A. Vater, 78, of Greenville, NC, husband of Pamela (FitzGerald) Vater, passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2024 in Greenville. Born in New Britain, CT, son of the late Edward and Anne (Siton) Vater, Bob formerly resided in Massachusetts, moving to Greenville in 2007. A 1964 graduate of New Britain High School, Bob received a bachelor's degree from Bucknell University in Pennsylvania. While at Bucknell, he participated in the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC). After graduating in 1968, he entered the U.S. Army as a lieutenant and served in Vietnam. He then worked for more than 40 years in the insurance industry. Bob's family will remember him for his enthusiastic enjoyment of delicious food, solving crossword puzzles in ink, and watching UConn basketball games.
Besides his wife, Pamela, Bob is survived by two daughters, Laura (Jason) Graff of Plano, TX; and Sally Vater, also of Plano; a son, Robert E. Vater of Shrewsbury, MA; a sister, Carol Vater of Somerville, MA; a brother, Paul (Joanny) Vater of Lafayette, NJ; a grandson, Warren Graff; a niece and a nephew.
A graveside funeral service with military honors will be held 11 AM Thursday, January 9, 2025 at Fairview Cemetery, New Britain, CT. There are no calling hours.
