Robert Carl Wolter was born on April 7, 1932, in Kingsville, Texas and raised in Bishop, Texas; he died in
Corpus Christi, Texas at the age of 93 on April 20, 2025.
In Bishop, Bob grew up with loving parents on the family farm. Bob was an FFA member, raised many show calves, drove tractors, and helped in cotton, milo maize, and corn harvesting. He graduated from Bishop High School in 1949. He attended Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas for two years and played the saxophone in the marching band and orchestra and also played drums. Bob formed the "Bishop Hillbillies" country/western band and played at dances in the Bishop and Kingsville area.
Bob continued his education at the University of Texas at Austin in September 1951. While there, he met and dated his future wife, Frances Fitzhugh Overton. After graduation from the University of Texas at Austin with a BA in Government in 1954, Bob entered the U.S. Army and proudly served his country at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, at Fort Ord in California, and at Camp Losey in Ponce, Puerto Rico. Bob served as a drill instructor at both Fort Ord and Camp Losey. He also taught Spanish at Camp Losey. Bob was honorably discharged from the Army in November 1955, married Frances on August 25, 1956, and started Baylor Law School.
After finishing law school in 1958, Bob went to work as a lawyer for the State Highway Department in Waco, Texas, and then moved to
Corpus Christi, Texas to work with an oil and gas lawyer, Neil Marriott. He then joined Wood and Boykin in August 1960, later to become Wood, Boykin, and Wolter.
Bob enjoyed taking part in his community. He was a Texas Freemason in Bishop and then in Kingsville. In Corpus Christi, Bob was an early member of the 20-30 Club and a Charter Member of Corpus Christi Sunrise Rotary International. He and Frances joined Parkway Presbyterian Church in 1960, and he served as a Ruling Elder and taught Sunday school classes. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of Incarnate Word Academy from 1978 to 1980; Board Member of First Texas Savings and Loan of Corpus Christi in 1980 and later on the Board of Corpus Christi Savings and Loan; President of Sunrise Rotary in 1992; Chairman of the Board of the YMCA of the Coastal Bend in 2003; and Past President of the Del Mar College Foundation which he served on for many years and then Trustee Emeritus of Del Mar College Foundation, Inc. in 2006. He also served on the board of Presbyterian Pan American School in Kingsville, Texas.
Among his many interests, which included fishing, hunting, and watching sports, Bob stayed an avid handball player at the YMCA of the Coastal Bend. Bob had always been a prime example of what it means to be a lawyer to his peers. He served as President of the Nueces County Bar Association in 1972. He was a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation. In 1987, Bob was the State Bar Convention Committee Chairman for the largest convention held in the history of the State Bar, at the time. In 1992, he was a Charter Member of the Texas Supreme Court Historical Society. The Corpus Christi Association of Legal Professionals awarded Bob the Boss of the Year in 2008.
Bob is survived by his children son Robert Patrick Wolter and his wife Sara Webdell Wolter, son Thomas James Wolter and his wife Carrie Frels Wolter, daughter Jane Frances Wolter-Williamson and her husband David Carlton Williamson; his grandchildren, Amy Cather and her husband Daniel, Audrey Davis and her husband Christopher, Elizabeth Skrobarczyk and her husband Michael, Katherine Yarborough and her husband Alan, Robert Williamson, Frances Williamson, and John Williamson; his great grandchildren, Ella Cather, Caleb Cather, James Davis, and Emerson Davis. We all cherish Bob's gifts of faith, wisdom, wit, humor, and compassion.
Bob's pallbearers are Stewart Rice, Lucinda Garcia, Will Kirk, Frank McMillan, Robert Williamson, John Williamson, Daniel Cather, Christopher Davis, Michael Skrobarczyk, and Alan Yarborough.
