Roberta was born in Heidelberg, Germany. Her mother, Olga was born in Londonderry, Ireland. Her father, Robert, born in Brooklyn, NY, was a Captain in the U.S. Army. Chubby De Marco and his family were also special in Bobbie's life.
Roberta was a member of St. Cecilia's first graduation class. After receiving her high school diploma from Morris Catholic High School, Bobbie entered the Franciscan Capuchin Community for five years, hoping to work in their orphanage. These were formative years and Roberta was introduced to teaching.
Ms. Willard was educated on a post-secondary level at Seton Hall University, Fairleigh Dickinson University and Brooklyn College. She then earned her Master's degree in Education on the Secondary level at Queens College.
Ms. Willard loved teaching Environmental Science, Physical Science, Algebra, World Religions and the Old and New Testaments. She taught at St. Matthias for nine years in Queens, NY and then 31 years at St. Saviour's High School in Brooklyn, NY working with the SSND's in both schools.
For more than 25 years, Ms. Willard involved her students in many acts of kindness and service in the SEEK Club. Together, they painted pumpkins for the elderly in nursing homes, sang Christmas carols at the Methodist Hospital, collected coats and other clothing and toys for "Operation Christmas Child". Ms. Willard believed in positive action. One special environmental project was the annual International Beach Cleanup. She helped raise funds to protect endangered species and to plant trees through "American Forest". Ms. Willard encouraged all to see themselves as channels of God's peace.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 from 4:00 - 8:00PM at the Whitham-Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave, Rockaway NJ. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Cecilia Church, 70 Church St, Rockaway NJ on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at 10AM. Interment will follow at St. Cecilia Cemetery, Rockaway NJ.
