Roger Ganier Jr., of Covington, TN was born into this world on April 26, 1944 and passed away on his birthday, April 26, 2025.
Born to Roger and Nancy Ganier, he was raised in Dyersburg, Tennessee. A 1962 graduate of Dyersburg High School, he attended The University of Tennessee at Knoxville, obtaining an undergraduate degree. He earned his Doctorate of Dentistry at The University of Tennessee, Memphis.
Roger moved to Covington in 1970, having bought the practice of Dr. Walker. He and Gail made a home in Covington, where he practiced dentistry for over forty years. Roger loved both his patients and his staff, whom he lovingly referred to as "The Girls at the Office." In addition to serving the community, he also completed three mission trips to Honduras and Nicaragua. Closer to home, he provided dental care to Reelfoot Rural Ministries and the people of Northwest Tennessee and Southwest Kentucky. He had a heart for people.
Roger met Gail in 1970 and was married for fifty-three years. He lovingly referred to her as "Diesty." Roger and Gail loved to travel to Mexico and enjoy time together at Horseshoe Lake, Arkansas. Gail was his constant companion and anchor. Roger and Gail had Alex and Allison, and were blessed with six grandchildren, along with many beloved dogs including Lester, Noby, Jack and Zoe. They attended and raised their children at the First United Methodist Church, Covington, and have been faithful members for over forty-five years.
Roger was an avid sportsman and loved to hunt deer, squirrel, elk, and his favorite, turkeys. He enjoyed taking his friends, children, and especially his son Alex. Over his lifetime he had many eclectic interests and hobbies, including tennis, biking, photography, beekeeping, chickens, bluebirds, koi fish and bonsai trees. Roger enthusiastically shared his interests with those he loved.
The last five years of Roger's life were difficult. As his health and mobility declined, he was lovingly cared for by his wife Gail, Alex and Allison, and his wonderful caregivers, Diane, Barbara, Lisa, and Judy. Allison's lifelong best friend, Nora, provided his physical therapy, caring for him like a family member. He had a special bond with Diane. The family will always be grateful for her devotion and the way she cared for him.
Roger was a colorful, unique soul. He lived life to the fullest and enjoyed the people God gave to him. He was truly "One of a Kind" and we will all miss him dearly.
Roger joins his father, Roger Sr., mother, Nancy, and brother, Mitchell. He is celebrated by his brother, Jim (Laura), his wife Gail, children Alex (Kelly), Allison (John), and grandchildren, Edward, Colton, Elise, Ella, Elizabeth, and Hayes.
A graveside service will be held at Mount Carmel Cemetery on Wednesday, April 30th, at 12:00 PM. Immediately following, a memorial service will be conducted at First United Methodist Church in Covington, Tennessee, beginning at 1:30 PM. The family invites all friends and loved ones to remain after the service for a reception in Roger's Honor. Services have been entrusted to Maley Yarbrough Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to FUMC Children's Wing or Reelfoot Rural Ministry.
