Roger D. Hickman, 71, of Washington, passed away at 8:25pm Saturday, September 6, 2025 at his home.
He was born October 4, 1953 in Keokuk, IA to the late Noah C. and Helen L. Sowder Hickman.
He is survived by his daughters, Emily (Brandon) Isbell and Lauren (Luke) Liescheidt; his six granddaughters, Ellen, Lila, Rose, and Ruby; Georgia and Margo; his sister, Susan
(Brian) Butler. He is also remembered by his former spouses, Pamela Goodin, mother of his daughters, and Margaret Kelly, along with his stepchildren, Genevieve, William, Thomas, and Michael, with whom he shared many meaningful years.
Roger graduated from Washington Community High School, where he excelled in football. He went on to earn his bachelor's degree from Illinois Wesleyan University,
where he continued his football career, and later earned his master's degree from American Graduate School of International Management. Roger was active in his community, serving on the WCHS District 308 board, the original Five Points board, and operated his local State Farm agency for over 30 years.
He was known for his outgoing nature and quick wit. A true people person whose warmth and energy served him well throughout his long career as an insurance agent. A lifelong sports fan, he loved sharing that passion with friends and family. Many things could bring tears to his eyes, including the sound of a marching band, an underdog's victory, or the happy ending of a movie, all reflecting his deeply sentimental spirit. He felt things fully and wasn't afraid to show it. He was especially proud to be a "girl dad" and cherished his role as Papa Rog to all of his granddaughters.
A devoted son and a curious mind, he inherited a deep love of learning from his parents, both lifelong educators. He often dove into non-fiction books and eagerly shared what he'd discovered with those around him. He also had a great appreciation for music and found joy in the simple things that brought people together.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Greater Peoria Honor Flight.
His family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00pm Sunday, September 28, 2025 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Private family services will be held, with inurnment at Glendale Cemetery.
