Roland was born October 30, 1928 to Emil and Esther (Grothe) Osmundson in Faribault County, MN. He was the oldest of four children. Rollo started working and helping on the farm at a very young age. That discipline stuck with him throughout his entire life. He was never one to sit still, always had to be doing something. And if he wasn’t doing for himself, he was helping others anyway he could. Rollo loved farming, and his weathered hands showed the sweat and tears he put into it. He was happiest when he was up to his elbows in grease from repairing a piece of equipment, or his hands muddy from digging a grave. In later years when he stepped back from farming, you could find him happily mowing the ditches alongside each of the fields he owned, showing the pride he took in his land. His grandchildren and great grandchildren held a special place in his heart. Although he was a quiet grandpa, you could always find him playing with them on the living room floor with toys. He and Delores never missed a chance to attend any of their events regardless of where it was. He served many years on the DHS school board, Faith Lutheran Church board, and the Delavan Elevator board.
He married the love of his life, Delores Quint on March 20, 1949 and together they raised their four children on the farm. He passed with Delores by his side.
Left to cherish the memories of a wonderful man are his wife of 74 years Delores, his children; JoAnn (Warren) Proehl, Diane (Ron) Lechner, Dave (Gwen) Osmundson and Ron (Sheila) Osmundson. Sixteen grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren as well as many other extended family and close friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Edward and Franklin and sister Barbara Franke.
A special thank you to Oak Terrace of North Mankato and their staff for the great care they provided while Rollo was there, and also to Mapleton Community Home and their staff for Rollo’s last few weeks of care. A special thank you to Mayo Health System Hospice, of Mankato for their exceptional care for Rollo and his family.
