Ronald J. "Ron" Flaska, age 78, a resident of Aurora, IL since 2000, formerly of Darien, IL, peacefully passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2024, at his home. He was born May 14, 1946, in Oak Park, IL.
Beloved husband of Marlene R. Flaska (nee Laine), whom he married on November 22, 1969, loving father of Jennifer Flaska of Sugar Grove, IL and Christopher (Ashley) Flaska of Lake Barrington, IL, adored grandfather of Joshua, Trevor, Nolan and Liam Cannon; Morgan Flaska, devoted son of the late Robert J. and Evelyne M. (nee Leitner) Flaska, dear brother of Penny Merrick of DeKalb, IL and the late Sharron (the late James) Stanek, brother-in-law of Pam (Brian) McNamara, Carol (Doug) Gietl and the late Russ Laine, cousin, uncle, great-uncle and friend of many.
Ron grew up in Oak Brook Terrace, IL, and graduated from Willowbrook High School, Class of 1964. Ron was a Vietnam War veteran, proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army, January 1966-November 1967. Ron's sister, Penny, suggested Marlene write her brother who was in Vietnam. The two became pen pals, eventually meeting a month after he returned home. Ron and Marlene were married two years later and have celebrated 54 years of marriage. Together they raised their two children, Jenn and Chris.
Ron was a diesel mechanic by trade and spent the majority of his working years at Mobil Oil Corporation. Ron's life outside of work was centered around supporting his kids at their activities no matter if it was a band, scouting or sporting event. His priority was his family. He was extremely handy, often busy with a project around the house or helping friends and family with theirs. He was an avid fisherman and boater. His greatest pleasure was spending time at Lake Carroll with Marlene, his kids and grandkids. Being on or around the water was his favorite pastime. Ron had the utmost patience trying to make a fisherman out of the grandkids. Ron loved his cats over the years and had an extra special bond with Precious. He also made many memories on trips to Cancun, Mexico with both friends and family.
Ron will be greatly missed by so many.
A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, July 15, 2024, 10:00 – 11:30 AM at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill Street, Naperville.
