Russell Evans Obituary

Russell R Evans, 96, of Tamaqua, passed away February 2, 2025 in Geisinger/St. Luke's Hospital, Orwigsburg. 

He was the husband of the late Edith Jane (Picton) Evans to whom he was married on October 1, 1949. Born August 29, 1928 in Middleport, PA, he was the son of the late Elmer Thomas and Eva Mabel (Busch) Evans.Russell graduated from Blythe Township High School in 1945, attended Girard College from 1935-1942, and also attended Thaddeus Stevens Trade School. Russell proudly served his country in the United States Air Corps from 1946-1948, was a Control Tower Operator in Italy and Germany, and was honorably discharged with the rank of corporal.  He was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad at Mt. Carbon Yard, Miners National Bank, and PPL.

Surviving are his daughters: Rhonda J, wife of Lynn Bower; Amy L Evans; and Meredith A, wife of Joseph Twardzik. Sons: Bruce T Evans; David R, husband of Jane Evans; and Owen G, husband of Yvonne Evans. Grandchildren: Jennifer, wife of David Whildin, Rachel Ilgenfritz, Sarah Delp, Leah Ilgenfritz, Keith, husband of Sarah Evans, Zachary, Isabella and Julia Evans and Kelly, Joseph, Nicholas and Vincent Twardzik. Great Grandchildren: Gabriella Whildin, Bryce and Chase Delp, Ezekiel and Edith Evans. Russell is also survived by his niece, Gail Ann, wife of Ronald Sacks. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and daughter Gwynneth Ann in 1961. Also by his siblings: Mabel "Mae" Yuscyk, Elmer "Buster" Evans, Elva Weicker, and Theodore who died as an infant. 

Services are private at the convenience of the family.
