Russell Cole Seawell, 91, of Bennett, passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at the Randolph Hospice House. The body will lie in repose at Joyce-Brady Chapel from 1:00-5:00 pm on Friday, October 20, 2023 and at the church one hour prior to the funeral on Saturday. The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. on, October 21, 2023 at Beulah Baptist Church with Rev. Curtis Barbery and Dr. Neal Jackson presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Russell was born in Randolph County on February 17,1932 to Eli Spinks Seawell and Ruth Cole Seawell. He was a devoted member of Beulah Baptist Church where he was a deacon for many years. He oversaw the food bank and served as the cemetery sexton. He also served as the Chair of the North Carolina Rural Electrification Authority, worked with the North Carolina Agricultural Stabilization and Conversation Service (ASCS) and was on the Board of Directors for Randolph Electrical Association (REA). Russell retired as a mail carrier, then worked with the Chatham County Emergency Service. He was a member of the Bennett Fire Department and served on the Board of Directors. He loved his family, friends and community.
In addition to his parents, he preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Seawell and an infant sister.
Russell is survived by his wife of 33 years, Louvene Spencer Seawell; daughter, Shirley Mitchell, of Asheville; son, Bryan Seawell (Christian Ribeiro), of Bennett; step-daughters, Teresa Collins (Bob Collins), of Robbins, Penny Spencer, of Robbins and Shelley Garner (Bradley Garner), of Robbins; granddaughter, Elise Seawell; step-grandchildren, Dorian Barranti, Spencer Collins (Alyssa), Elizabeth Collins, Dakota Garner and Hayden Garner; step-great-grandchildren, Landon and Luke Collins, and a host of family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, food donations may be made to the Bennett Food Pantry c/o Beulah Baptist Church, 8454 Howard Mill Rd., Bennett, NC 27208.
