Ruthe H. (Hoenig) Actor, 88, wife of the late Paul Actor of Sarasota, FL passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at her home in Ventnor, NJ.
Born on August 17, 1935 in New York City, NY she was the daughter of the late Karl and Pearl (Beim) Hoenig.
Ruthe received her Bachelor’s degree from Hunter College and Master's degree in Education from Rutgers University. She worked as an Elementary School Teacher before having children and afterwards as a substitute teacher teacher at Schuylkill Elementary school. She headed a preschool at Congregation B’nai Jacob in Phoenixville.
She was a member of Congregation B'nai Jacob since moving to Phoenixville in 1964. She served in multiple capacities there including as a teacher in religious school, as Education Committee Chair, and Major Gifts chair among other committees. She served as Sisterhood president and went on to be the congregation’s first female President. Ruthe volunteered for the Board of the Jewish Federation of Chester County. When she and Paul became “snowbirds” in Sarasota, Florida she became equally active in their new congregation, Temple Beth Shalom, where she made many new friends and built a community.
She was a woman of valor and led by example. Ruthe influenced many people’s lives for the better in her 88 short years.
She is survived by 3 children:Carol F. Actor and husband Mitchel Kling in Malvern, PAJeffrey Kenneth Actor and wife Lori in Houston, TXNeil Andrew Actor and wife Nini Engel in Philadelphia.
She is also survived by seven grandchildren- Lila Wark, Emma Kling, Jonas Actor, Amanda Actor, Rose Actor-Engel, Hannah Actor-Engel, and Simon Actor-Engel in addition to six great grandchildren.
She was close to her beloved nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her brother, Harvey Hoenig.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Funeral Service at Congregation B'nai Jacob, 101 Manavon Street, Phoenixville, PA 19460 on Monday, August 19, 2024 at 11:00 am.
Burial will follow in B'nai Jacob Cemetery, Mont Clare, PA.
Shiva will be observed at the home of Carol Actor and Mitchel Kling.
