Sally Ann Dalglish, 85, of Harborcreek passed away at home with her family by her side on August 17, 2023. She was born June 21, 1938, at Hamot Hospital in Erie, Pennsylvania, the oldest child of F. Berne Soudan and Irene Stella Soudan. She was a caring older sister to Judy Soudan Nadzam (now of Mentor, Ohio).
Sally led a full and happy life punctuated by her distinctive laugh. Her talents included oil painting, music, flower gardening, quilting, ceramics, crafts, cooking, tennis, water skiing, and downhill snow skiing. She enjoyed travel, especially summers at Chautauqua Lake, yearly Spring stays in Florida, trips to Italy (her favorite), Scotland, Switzerland, Norway, Denmark, Austria, Germany, France, Spain, Mexico, and Canada, and many a road trip across the USA.
Sally started school at Brookside Elementary in Harborcreek and graduated from Lawrence Park High School in 1956, where she was a class speaker, editor of the yearbook, and a cheerleader. She attended the Pittsburgh School of Art, Mercyhurst College for interior design, and the Southern Atelier in Sarasota, Florida, for oil painting. She held a variety of jobs, including a "soda-jerk" at Soudan's (the popular Lawrence Park restaurant built by her father), assistant at Gulf Oil Company in Pittsburgh, and teller for the Bank of Erie. She also founded and managed a successful design business, Distinctive Interiors, culminating in the design and general contracting of the family home (Dalglen) on the bank of Lake Erie in Harborcreek.
Sally was a member of the PEO sisterhood Chapter X and of Eastminster Presbyterian Church since 1961. She served on the Board of Deacons, sang in the choir, instructed at the summer day camp, directed stage plays, conducted the hand bell choir for 20 years, and managed the redesign and construction of the sanctuary interior.
Although she will certainly be remembered for her many contributions to her church and community, Sally's lasting legacy rests in the hearts of everyone lucky enough to learn from her, laugh with her, or simply spend some time in her spirited presence. She was a cherished mother and grandmother, the glue that brought the Dalglish family together for Christmas ski holidays and summer lake days year after year. Sally truly was an inspiration and beacon of light to all.
Her survivors include Edward, her loving husband of over 66 years; four sons: Scott (Carolyn) of Lago Vista, Texas; Mark (Anna) of Lawrence Park; Geoffrey (Leslie) of Highland Village, Texas; and Gregory (Kim) of Bradenton, Florida; and twelve grandchildren: Shawn, Emily, Olivia, Parker, Mackenzie, Ethan, Jenna, Katelyn, Spencer, Molly, Jackson, and Sydney.
Sally fought and won a seven-month battle with a rare cancer in 2006. With gratitude and awe for the care she received, please send donations in Sally's name to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, PO Box 4486, Houston, TX 77210-4486 or www.mdanderson.org/gifts. Many thanks also to UPMC Family Hospice for assisting throughout the last months.
Family and friends are warmly invited to call at the Dusckas-Taylor Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 5151 Buffalo Road (at Hannon Rd. in Harborcreek Twp.), on Thursday, Aug. 24th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Further visitation will be held on Friday, Aug. 25th at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 2320 East Lake Road, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. to be conducted by the Rev. Stephen Morse and Pastor Henry Rafferty. A graveside service will follow at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery. All are invited to celebrate Sally's life at a reception at Lawrence Park Golf Course at 1:30 p.m.
