Rev. Sally Morton Odum, 63, of Maysville, N.C. went to be with our Lord and Savior on October 11, 2024, peacefully surrounded by her family.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Lester Hansley Sr. & Rev. Myrtle M. Hansley; her brothers, Lester Hansley Jr. and Bobby Hansley Sr.; sister, Rev. Linda Joyce Huffman; and her first husband, David Lee Morton Sr.
Sally is survived by her husband of 16 years of the home, Danny Odum; her son, David Lee Morton Jr.; and her sister, Judy H. Betts (John Betts).
Sally graduated high school in 1979 from Jones Senior high School in Trenton and was crowned Miss Trojan that same year. After high school, Sally attended East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C. on a four-year scholarship.
Sally was a member of the North Carolina Genealogical Society, The Academy of American Poets, and Broadcast Music, Inc. She was an author and wrote several books, including "The Hansley Family Legacy" and "To God With Love," a collection of Christian poetry and songs. Sally has also written and composed a number of country and gospel songs. She was a singer, songwriter and pianist and a member of the only female gospel group in Maysville at the time, with her two sisters, Judy and Joyce, called The Hansley Sisters Gospel Trio, which recorded an album titled "Dreams Come True" at Granite City Studios.
Sally and her sisters went on to open the Gospel Opry House on White Oak River Rd. in Maysville, N.C. which featured programs of gospel singing and testimonies by The Hansley Sisters Gospel Trio and invited guests, with admission free of charge to glorify and uplift the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, and to be acceptable in his sight.
Sally was the Pianist and Choir Director of White Oak Trinity Independent Baptist Church in Maysville, N.C. for decades. She was also an ordained minister.
The family will be having a private service at a later date.
