Obituary published on Legacy.com by Haisten McCullough Funeral Home on Jul. 11, 2025.
Sally Ann Turkett of Lexington, SC, formerly of
Griffin, GA went home to be with her Lord on July 10, 2025 at the Eternal Hope Hospice and Palliative care after a brief illness. Mrs. Turkett was born on August 25, 1945 to the late Virginia Alexander Stallings and Gerald Bryant Stallings in Milan, TN. She was preceded in death by her brother Jerry Alexander Stallings. She was wed to Rev. Gene Turkett on May 28, 1981 and was married until his death on June 16, 2017.
She is survived by her husband, Richard L. Powell of Columbia, SC; sister, Betty Kay Williams (Stan)of Melbourne, FL; stepdaughter, Lisa Turkett Dawson (Bill) of Lynchburg, VA; stepson and daughter in law, Byron Turkett (April) of
Griffin, GA: stepdaughter, Rebecca Powell Austin (Tom) of Columbia, SC and stepson John Powell (Susan) of Columbia, SC. She was "Mama Sally" to 11grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Sally's devotion to serving Jesus was evident in the direction her vocation took over the years. At various points in time, she worked for notable organizations and people of faith including W.A. Criswell at First Baptist Dallas TX, June Hunt at June Hunt Ministries, First Baptist Atlanta and the former Southern Baptist Home Mission Board (now NAMB) in Atlanta. She ended her career of Christian service as an administrator at the former Baptist Manor Senior Living Community (now Palmetto Park) in Palmetto, GA.
Sally loved her fur-babies and treated them all as if they were kings and queens of her castle. Bridget, Precious, Nash, Cissy, Chloe and Sophie. Each brought her great joy and love. Her children and grandchildren would tell you if it were ever a decision of us or the dogs, the dogs would win.
Unknown to most, Sally was a TV sports fanatic, especially teams from Atlanta but her heart was always Volunteer Orange and Powder Blue, the colors of the Lady Vols Basketball Team. She admired Pat Summitt, a fellow west Tennessean, greatly.
Celebration of Life Services for Sally Ann Turkett will be held on July 14th, 2025 at Haisten-McCullough Funeral Home in
Griffin, GA beginning with visitation with family and friends from 12:00pm – 2:00pm. The Celebration of Life Service will begin at 2:00pm with Rev. Bill Dawson and Byron Turkett officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in

Last and certainly not least, Sally received care in her last 8 months from the most caring and compassionate group of women and men we have ever known at Beehive Homes Memory Care in Stockbridge and Eternal Hope Hospice and Palliative Care in Griffin. Our family could not have walked this path without each of you. We will be forever grateful. There is one special caregiver that we want to acknowledge, April Turkett, Sally's daughter-in-law. Sally began to affectionately refer to April as "mama" as April was always there, always kind, always helpful, always loving until the end. Sally loved you very much.
