Sandra Kay Seling

Sandra Kay Seling, a woman whose life was a tapestry of creativity, passion, and love, passed away peacefully in her hometown of Lansing, Michigan. Born on December 3, 1939, in the same city where she would later leave her indelible mark, Sandra's journey was one of remarkable achievements and unwavering dedication to her family.
A proud graduate of Walter French High School, Sandra's thirst for knowledge led her to college, where she majored in music, mastering every instrument that crossed her path. Sandra began her professional life at the State Police Department, where she was one of the pioneering programmers who developed a code for fingerprint scanning software. She continued to blaze trails in the field of computer programming, working with various tech companies until her well-earned retirement.
Beyond her professional achievements, Sandra's artistic soul shone brightly. Her hands, always eager to create, produced beautiful paintings and drawings that captured the beauty of nature and the world around her. She shared her love of music by teaching all of her grandchildren the piano and taught them to cheer for her favorite teams, the Michigan State Spartans and the Detroit Tigers.
She was a constant presence in the lives of her daughter and grandchildren. She never missed performances or games, always their number one fan. Her family was the cornerstone of her existence, and she relished every moment spent with them, from the quiet afternoons in her garden to the special week she let her grandchildren plan with her each year.
To describe Sandra as merely creative, passionate, and loving would be an understatement. She was a beacon of light and wisdom, a matriarch whose legacy is etched in the hearts and minds of her family. Her brain was indeed as big as her heart, and her memory will be cherished as a treasure that continues to guide and inspire.
Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Lucille Seling along with a brother Bud (Ethel) Seling. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Shannon Rivard; her grandchildren, Sydney Rivard, Noah Rivard, and Chloe Rivard; great-grandson, Charles Loomis; nephews and niece, Scott (Shari) Seling, Robin Bosgraaf, and Marty (Lori) Seling, along with several other loved cousins, and great nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Sandra's life will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at 4:00 PM at the Palmer Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Homes, Delta Chapel with Pastor Bryan Schnieder-Thomas officiating. Visitation will begin Saturday at 3:00 PM at the funeral home.
