Sandra A. Weinfurter, age 85, of Wisconsin Rapids, WI passed away peacefully on Monday, January 6, 2025 surrounded by her husband Eugene and sons, Terry and Jeff.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 13, 2025 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. Steven Weller will officiate the service. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM at the church. Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials may be directed to Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids, or the American Cancer Society. Sandy was proud to call herself a cancer survivor.
Sandy was born August 18, 1939, the oldest of five daughters to Chester and Beth (Wakefield) Chapiewski in Winona, Minnesota. After graduating from Wisconsin Rapids Assumption High School in 1957, she met the love of her life and future husband, Eugene Weinfurter, on a blind date. They were united in marriage at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church on September 26, 1959, and enjoyed 65 wonderful years together. They raised two boys and were blessed with five grandchildren, and four great-granddaughters – great-grandma's "little angels".
After high school, Sandy worked at Preway Incorporated until Gene and Sandy started a family. When the boys were in middle school, she went back to work, retiring from Consolidated Papers (Biron Division), after 25 years of service.
Sandy was a people person and could engage in conversation with almost anyone that she met. Sandy enjoyed Thursday night league bowling, and weekly trips to the casino. Gene and Sandy enjoyed camping in their younger years with a great group of friends. Good times and a lot of laughter were had by all. They enjoyed many years of sheepshead club, and in the late 1980's purchased a cabin in Tomahawk, WI. After 10 years of cabin life, they went back to camping, and for years attended the annual Hodag Country Festival. After Sandy retired, she volunteered her time to the Riverview Hospital Association, and worked many events for Saints Peter & Paul church. It was in retirement that Gene and Sandy opted to winter in Sarasota, Florida for 15 years, making new friends and enjoying warmer winters.
Sandy enjoyed attending her sons and grandchildren's sporting events wherever they were. She was also a fan of the Wisconsin Badgers, Milwaukee Brewers, and Green Bay Packers.
Sandy is survived by her husband, Eugene; children, Terry (Patty) Weinfurter of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, and Jeff (Jodi) Weinfurter of Waupaca, WI; grandchildren, Cassandra (Edward) Koutnik, Taylor Weinfurter (special friend, Kody Schmidt), Zachary (Kenia) Weinfurter, Brett Weinfurter (Fiancé, Emily Bialka), and Colton Weinfurter; great-grandchildren, Charlotte, twins-Audrey and Harper Koutnik, and Claire Weinfurter; sisters, Marlene (Dennis) Gorczany, Joyce Payne, and Kay DuPree; brother-in-law, Lee Roy Weinfurter; sisters-in-law, Elaine Killian, and Sandy Zimny; she is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws, Carl and Ethel Weinfurter; sister, Sharon (Tom) Smith, brothers-in-law, Terry Payne, David DuPree, Dale (Kathy) Weinfurter, Norman Killian, Denny Zimny, and William Weinfurter; and sister-in-law Maridon Weinfurter.
The family wishes to recognize the staff at The Renaissance, Compassus Home Healthcare, and Dr. Lisa Olson for their kind and compassionate care of Sandy. They would also like to thank Ritchay Funeral Home for their support and guidance during this difficult time.

Sandy and Sharon were neighbors in our youth living just a few blocks apart. Both Sandy and Sharon were known to us affectionately as "Chippy". Chippy was easily recognizable to me even though i have not seen her since about 1959. Sandy was a very nice lady. I am saddened that both she and Sharon have passed.
