Scott D. "Scoot" Shell, a man who lived life at full throttle, has left us too soon. Born on a sunny California day on June 6, 1988, in Camp Pendleton, Scoot entered the world with a spirit as bright and fiery as his favorite color, red. He was the cherished son of Sharon and Scott Freeman and Scott and Rickie Jo Shell. His life was a brilliant, albeit too brief, adventure that concluded unexpectedly on May 30, 2025, in Beaverton, Michigan, due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle/auto accident.
Scoot was the epitome of a life well-lived and well-loved. His infectious laughter and mischievous grin were a beacon of joy for all who knew him. A heavy equipment operator by trade, he worked with the same passion and precision at De Lisle Lawn Care and ABC Supply that he applied to every aspect of his life. Scoot was a man who knew how to move the earth both literally and metaphorically, touching the lives of everyone he met.
His love for mud bogging, riding motorcycles, and fishing were eclipsed only by the love he had for his children, Scout Lee Marie Shell and Jamison David Shell-Roberson. As a father, Scoot was as playful and caring as he was as a brother to Joshua (Audrey), Zachary (May), and Cody (Alesha) Shell, as well as his step-siblings Cassandra (Tyler) Oruosh, Marina (Zach) Miller, and Tristin Neeb. Along with his aunt Terri (Brad) Pretzlaff and special great Aunt Maureen Rose who will fondly remember him as a spirited soul who never missed an opportunity for a good tease.
Scoot was a man who could light up a room with his humor and warmth. He was the life of every party, always ready with a joke, a funny anecdote, or a playful jab at his friends – all in good fun, of course. His laughter was as contagious as his enthusiasm for a shared beverage among friends and family.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, and a void that cannot be filled. His nieces, nephews, Logan who took under his wing growing up, Joseph, Olivia, Dalton, Anastasia, Theo, and Vayda and countless friends' children will miss their favorite funny uncle, the one who could always make them giggle until their sides hurt. His passing is preceded by his grandparents Kenneth & Lois Laughlin and Arnold & Lesley Shell, and his aunt Tammy Shell, who no doubt welcomed him with open arms and a shared sense of humor that runs deep in the family.
Scott "Scoot" Shell was one of a kind – a man who embraced life with a full heart and never missed a chance to make others smile. His spirit was as red as the mud he loved to sling, as bright as the chrome on his motorcycle, and as deep as the waters he fished. To say he will be missed is an understatement; to say he will be remembered is a promise. Ride on, Scoot, through the eternal mud bogs and open roads to the great beyond, where every day is sunny and the laughter never ends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday June 7, 2025 at 4 pm from the Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home-GLADWIN CHAPEL. Family will greet friends and family at the funeral home on Saturday from 12 noon until services. Those wishing an expression of sympathy are asked to consider a fund to be set aside for Scoot's children's future needs. This can be sent to Mrs. Sharon Freeman, 135 N. Silverleaf St. Gladwin, Michigan 48624.
