Sharon Caldwell Motley, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, in Antigua. Born on February 6, 1959, in Asheville, Sharon dedicated her life to the care of others through her compassionate work as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Her professional journey began at MAHEC, followed by positions at Interim Health Care and concluded with her valued role at Kelly Health Care, from which she retired after many fulfilling years.
Sharon earned her nursing degree at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College, laying the foundation for a career marked by her unwavering dedication to those in need. Beyond her professional endeavors, she was known for the deep love and affection she had for her family, particularly her granddaughters, Karmen and Emma. She cherished the moments spent with them and often shared photos and treasured memories with friends and family, highlighting the special bond they shared.
Her strength of character was reflected in her close relationships; she had a profound bond with her brother Rick, whom she affectionately referred to as "Brother." Sharon's faith was also an essential aspect of her life, as she was saved and baptized at a young age, guiding her moral compass through all her endeavors.
Sharon leaves behind her loving husband of 43 years, Clyde J. Motley, Jr., with whom she shared a deep and enduring partnership since their marriage on June 29, 1983. She is also survived by her two sons, Ryan Jennings Motley and Logan Clyde Motley, who carry forward her legacy of kindness and love.
Further extending her family, Sharon is survived by her brother, Rick Sharpe and his wife Karen; her sisters, Vickie Lingle and her husband Dale, and Brenda Bassett; as well as her nieces, Alexis Kate Towe, Lisa Denise Vest and Sydney Motley, and her nephews, Brian Wallace Sharpe, and Jesse Spillars, and many great nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Sharon Caldwell Motley will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her unwavering commitment to her family, and her compassionate service to the community. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she touched throughout her life.
A funeral service to celebrate Sharon's life will be held at 12 Noon on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, in the Chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10:30 AM and going until 11:45 AM. Burial will follow at the Flats of Spring Creek Cemetery.
