Sheila Sterns Chisholm, lovingly known as a devoted wife, mom, Granna, & Coach went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 23, 2024 after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Sheila was a graduate of Sulphur High School and earned her bachelor's degree from McNeese State University. She lived to serve the Lord first, her family second, and lead exercise third. Sheila was a member of Moss Bluff Bible Church. She spent several years serving by teaching Sunday School, VBS, and leading the games at AWANA. She taught P.E. at various Calcasieu Parish Schools and for the past several years at Moss Bluff Elementary. She absolutely loved being with the kids and "getting them to move!" Most days, when she left school she went to her second job leading group classes at the gym. Over the years she led classes at Dynamic Dimensions, Gigi's, the Westlake Rec, and SPAR. She had quite the fan base and made lifelong friendships with her workout buddies. She also enjoyed cycling and it was nothing for her to get up on Saturday morning and ride 60 miles!
Sheila is preceded in death by her loving husband and cycling partner, Michael Chisholm, her parents Georgia and J.C. Sterns, and nephew Jordan Sterns. Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Dustin (Stacey) Chisholm of Sulphur, Casey (Emily) Chisholm of Lake Charles, and daughter Jessica (Justin) Richter of Norman, OK. Granddaughters Courtney, Lexie Kate, and Gretchen Richter and grandsons Redden and John Michael Chisholm will forever affectionately call her Granna. She is also survived by her sister Linda (Jerry) Hayes and brother Darrell (Donna) Sterns and their families.
Her faith in God never allowed her to wonder without hope. We will miss our mom for an uncertain number of days but we trust in the Lord that our time apart shall be temporary.
Her funeral service will be held at Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff on Monday, April 29, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. Rev. Jeremy Smith will officiate. Burial will take place in Mimosa Pines Cemetery in Carlyss following the service. Visitation will be held at Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff on Sunday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and will continue Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
The family would like to thank Dr. Khan and the wonderful nurses that cared for her in his office, the amazing ladies who cared for her in her home, Memorial Home Health, and Christus Hospice.
Pallbearers will be Chase Dowdle, Cody Sellers, David Dixon, David Parker, Josh Savoie, and Matthew Burnham.
In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Sheila would have wanted donations to some of her favorites: Moss Bluff Bible Church, Camp Pearl, Gideon International, St. Jude, The American Heart Association (Jump Rope for Heart), Samaritan's Purse, and The Wounded Warrior Project.
