Shelley McIntyre Draper, a native of Auburn, passed away peacefully at Forestdale Park Assisted Living in Malden, MA on February 28, 2024, at the age of 74.
Shelley was born in Auburn, Indiana, one of three children of the late James McIntyre and Joyce (Wiley) McIntyre McLendon. She graduated from Auburn High School in 1967. Shelley went on to earn her Bachelor's degree from Wellesley College and her J.D. from Boston College School of Law.
After being raised in Auburn and going off to college and law school, Shelley found and adopted Melrose, MA as her home away from home. She put down roots and developed many connections and lifelong friends over her 40 years being a member of the community.
Shelley practiced law in Boston for over thirty years. Her greatest joy was helping others. She was a brilliant attorney who generously gave her time and expertise to community causes and some of our most vulnerable neighbors. She also served as a legal advocate for children in the foster care system and those who needed additional services and support.
She was preceded in death by her father, James McIntyre and her mother, Joyce Wiley McIntyre McLendon.
She is survived by brothers, James McIntyre and his wife Wendy of Brookhaven, GA, and William McIntyre and his wife Kelly of Stuart, FL. She was the "cool" aunt to her loving nieces and nephews Kristen, Katie, Casey, Jamie, and Alex. Shelley loved to open her home in Melrose, MA and her cabin on Sebago Lake ME to them and their friends where they enjoyed spending time with her and making great memories. She is also survived by nine grandnieces and grandnephews.
Shelley is deeply missed but lovingly remembered by her friends and family.
A service was held in Melrose, MA in April.
A visitation will be held on June 18, 2024, from 10:00am-11:00am with a service at 11:00am at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 S. Center Street, Auburn, IN. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Auburn. Memorial donations can be given in memory of Shelley to the ACD Museum.
