Shirley Barbara (Keefe) Coe, 93, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, August 19, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on May 30, 1931, in Milton to the late James and Ethel Keefe of Milford, Shirley was a beacon of joy and laughter in the lives of everyone she met. Her warm spirit, magnetic presence, and witty sense of humor turned every gathering into a celebration.
Shirley was the devoted wife of Raymond Coe, with whom she shared a deep and enduring love for 71 remarkable years. Together, they built a life filled with love, countless laughs, and endless memories that her family will cherish forever. She was a proud mother to her five children: Raymond Coe Jr., Linda Shirley, Kathie Coe Renner, Sharon Doonan, and James Coe. Her love for her children was immeasurable, and her humor, compassion, and strength live on in each of them.
Shirley's family later expanded to include fifteen cherished grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Known affectionately as "Grammy" or "Great-Grammy," she took immense pride in being a role model and source of inspiration to her growing family. She shared countless cozy hugs, endless laughter, and boundless love with each of them.
Shirley was no stranger to challenges throughout her life, and confronted each one with remarkable grace, strength, and a touch of humor. A trailblazer in her field, she was one of the first graduates in the state of Massachusetts to earn a dual degree in Early Childhood Education and Learning Disabilities at Framingham State College. Her commitment to teaching did not stop there, as she later returned to school to earn her Master's degree while raising her five children. She dedicated over 20 years to the Milford school system, giving her students the same guidance and compassion she brought to her loved ones and community.
Later in life, Shirley faced Parkinson's disease with the same resiliency, positivity, and of course, laughter that characterized her approach to all of life's obstacles. Her ability to inspire and uplift those around her, even in the face of adversity, was a testament to her radiant spirit and enduring strength.
Visiting hours will be held Friday August 23, 2024 from 11 AM – 12 Noon in the Union Evangelical Church, 25 Dutcher Street, Hopedale, MA followed by a funeral service celebrating Shirley's life at 12 PM Noon in the church sanctuary.
Burial will follow in Vernon Grove Cemetery, Milford.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Parkinson's Foundation in Shirley's honor.
Shirley Barbara Coe's laughter, love, and warmth will forever be cherished by her family and all of those who were lucky enough to know her.
