Shirley Ann Keating Higgins, age 83, of Middletown, DE, originally from Hockessin, DE, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at her residence with her loving children by her side.
The daughter of the late John W. and Sophia E. Keating, Shirley was born in Hockessin in 1939. She attended Henry C. Conrad High School and Goldey-Beacom College. She was employed as an accountant and bookkeeper, as well as a sales representative at various times throughout her working career. Most of all, Shirley was a devoted mother and homemaker.
In her retirement years, Shirley loved traveling all over the United States and abroad. She also enjoyed spending time at the MOT Senior Center and the Spring Arbor Clubhouse.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Granville "Bud" T. Higgins. She is survived by her children, Charles Rick Webb of Hockessin, Tina S. Webb of Middletown, and Deneane A. Peirson of Hockessin; her grandchildren, Rickey, Lindsey, Billy, Amanda, Abigail, and Maximilian; her great grandchildren, Eliana, Leo and Aero. She is also survived by her companion, Robert Jenning Nichols of Fair Hill, MD.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Monday, April 24, 2023 from 10AM – 11AM at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808. A funeral service will begin at 11AM followed by an interment in Hockessin Friends Cemetery, 1501 Old Wilmington Rd., Hockessin, DE 19707.
