Shirley Phelps, 88, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, went home to her Lord and Savior Saturday, May 10, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loved ones.
Shirley was born June 3, 1936, to Earnest and Bertha Whitmer. Her mother passed at an early age, and she was raised by her grandparents, Arthur and Cora Jaco. Shirley was married to Thomas Phelps 44 years. He passed April 14, 2002.
Shirley was a member of Twin Springs Church for many years and taught Sunday school for many years.
She had worked for Florsheim Shoe Factory for many years. She enjoyed going to yard sales, auctions, fishing, singing ad listening to Blue Grass Gospel Music and singing Blue Grass Gospel for her Lord. She was an avid Cardinal fan.
Most of all she enjoyed being around her family and loved her family dearly.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Phelps; daughter, Geneva Hastings, a grand baby; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Phelps; sisters, Cora Pennington, Betty Murray.
Survivors include daughter, Carol Matthews of Poplar Bluff, two sons, Floyd Phelps of Jackson, Missouri and Tommy and Amber Hastings of Spring, TX; three grandchildren, Mandy Phelps Leek, Jackson, Shelby Hastings, Carter Hastings of Spring, TX; two great-grandchildren, Kinly and Alli Leek of Jackson; a very special aunt, Julia Pennington; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
At Shirley's request, there will be a graveside service at 2 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Gardens with her pastor Roger Mayo officiating.
Any donations are to go to the children's church at Twin Springs Church.
