Skyler Blue Granath, 24 of
Ogden, Utah, passed away on Sunday, August 18th as a result of a tragic lightning strike while doing what he loved, night fishing with his brother, Bridger and their friend, Jakob.
Skyler was, born on Tuesday, February 29, 2000, to Blue and Kari Granath. He came into the world on Leap Day in the first year of the new millennium. The family made their home in
Ogden, Utah where mountains form the horizon lines. Skyler's best early life was spent in Northern Utah's great outdoors under his father's teaching and love for nature. It was there he found an endless source of peace, wonder, exploration, and adventure. He thrived in the wilderness, on the water, and in the dirt – through every season. He excelled as a hunter, trapper, fisherman, camper, hiker, biker, boater, skier, snowboarder, etc. He loved to play outside.
He graduated from Bonneville High School in 2018. The best part of his high school experience was meeting the love of his life, Maddie Palmer. They met in 2015 and were soon high school sweethearts, the kind of sweethearts who grow more and more in love with each passing year. Skyler and Maddie did everything together, indoors, and outdoors, a real package deal. Maddie always heard, "I love you," from Skyler and received a kiss every morning before he left for work.
At a young age Skyler, Bridger, and their sister, Aspen, helped their grandfather in his meat processing shop. They learned how to work in their preteen and following years. In his twenty's, Skyler joined the Whitaker Construction team where he was recently promoted to plant manager. He enjoyed operating heavy equipment and B.S.ing with his coworkers, who included his brother and best friend, Bridger Granath. He always came home with new stories and jokes to share with his family and friends. Making people laugh was a gift that made Skyler happy.
Skyler and his fiancé, Maddie, have a beautiful twenty-month-old daughter, Amber Rae Granath, and another baby girl to be born this September. The name Jade Sky Granath was chosen for the couple's new daughter by her father. He looked forward to experiencing Amber as a big sister.
Even though Skyler was only 24, he accomplished much. He was blessed with many loving family members and close friends, and they were blessed by him. Skyler was generous with his time and his abilities. He was a loving, compassionate and helpful human being. He loved teaching Maddie and Amber how to enjoy nature, just as his father, Blue, taught him and his siblings. In the words of his grandmother, "His heart was as big as Flaming Gorge (one of his favorite places)." Even when circumstances were hard, Skyler did his best to leave people with a smile.
Skyler was preceded in death by two grandfathers, Greg (Kathy) Robinson and Christopher Granath, and one aunt, Amber Granath.
Skyler is survived by his fiancé Maddie Palmer, his daughter, Amber Rae Granath, his father, Blue Granath, his mother, Kari Robinson, his sister, Aspen Granath, his brother, Bridger Granath, his grandparents, Linda (Blake) Murray, and Debbie (Arnold) Mutti, his aunt, Brandie Drake, his uncles, Cody (Stephanie) Robinson, Trebor (Melanie Tull) Murray, Christopher (Megan) Murray, and Tyler (Natalie) Murray, and too many cousins to mention here.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation to Box Elder law enforcement / search and rescue services for all their efforts to recover the body. The two families are extremely grateful for the aid to the survivors and loved ones of the three men. Gratitude is also expressed to the McKay Dee Hospital and staff.
