Stephen Carroll, a cherished husband, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2025, in Newburgh, Indiana, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on November 29, 1948, in Mt Vernon, Illinois, Stephen's life was marked by his unwavering strength, love, and dedication to his family and country.
Stephen's journey began as a young man when he graduated from Harrison High School in 1967. His sense of duty led him to serve in the Army during the Vietnam War for five and a half years, where he demonstrated exceptional bravery and commitment. After his honorable service, Stephen found his calling at the University of Utah, where he worked as a maintenance supervisor for 35 years. His hard work and leadership left a lasting impact on the university community.
On November 14, 1970, Stephen married the love of his life, LouAnn, in Murray, Utah. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared passions. Stephen's Christian faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he was a member of the Faith Church of Nazarene, where he found great comfort and fellowship.
Stephen's interests were as unique as they were heartfelt. He had a passion for history, which he expressed through attending rendezvous re-enactments with his beloved pet, Kimo. Dressed in period clothes and sleeping in canvas tents, he immersed himself in the pastimes he loved. He made a name for himself by making very large fires, they called him "Two Cord". His fascination with craftsmanship was evident in his impressive knife collection and the time he spent working at a knife store in Eastland Mall.
Those who knew Stephen will remember him as a loving, friendly, and intelligent man. His warmth and kindness touched the lives of many, and his wisdom and humor brought joy to those around him. Stephen's legacy is carried on by his devoted wife, LouAnn Carroll; his brother, Raymond Carroll (Paula); his nephew, Jeremy Carroll; his niece, Crystal; and his beloved pet, Rose. He was preceded in death by his parents, Avis and Leland Carroll; his sister, Brenda Wallace; and his beloved pet, Captain.
Stephen Carroll's life was a testament to the power of love, the importance of family, and the value of service. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, but his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. As we bid farewell to Stephen, we take solace in the memories we shared and the knowledge that his legacy will live on in our hearts forever.
