Stephen Paul Leclaire of Stoughton, MA passed peacefully from this life on Saturday, February 22, 2025, just shy of his 57th birthday, following a two week battle with flu associated pneumonia.
He was the sixth of seven children born to the late Paul and Paula (O'Brien) Leclaire.
Stephen was born on February 26, 1968 in Glens Falls, New York with multiple, life threatening conditions. He was able to overcome most of them over the next couple of months, and continued to thrive.
He was a beacon of light to those around him, and brought them to know and spread love and compassion in their lives.
Stephen had a love for all music from an early age, and loved to sing and tap out rhythms. He enjoyed sports and participated in the Special Olympics many times during his school years. He was loved by his classmates for his congeniality so much that he received a rousing, standing ovation on the achievement of his Stoughton High School graduation with the class of 1988.
He was an active member of the Stoughton Association for Exceptional Citizens (SAEC), and enjoyed their many activities, especially dancing, and could be seen on the dance floor at most of the parties, singing along to the music.
Stephen enjoyed Bible Club, and at the holidays loved playing the Innkeeper in the Christmas Nativity Pageant, proclaiming "No Room".
Culinary delights of all kinds were enjoyed by Stephen, particular favorites being a Town Spa bacon pizza, and dessert, but you knew something was deemed exceptionally good when you'd hear him utter "Dee-licious!"
Stephen had the misfortune of having to deal with expressive aphasia. As a result, he was a man of few words and would communicate in phrases of two to five well chosen words. He managed to get his needs met without a problem and would come out with many zingers that would keep you laughing.
His weekdays were spent at the Community Based Day Support Program at GROW Associates in Randolph, MA where he enjoyed participating in music, sewing, and community exploration outings. His favorite activity at GROW was delivery of Meals on Wheels.
After dinner, Stephen enjoyed reading the newspaper and watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, then enjoyed his music and baseball cards before retiring for the day.
He loved baseball, especially the Red Sox and also enjoyed the Paw Sox games. He looked forward to weekend outings to get new baseball cards, and looked forward to receiving the "big box" every Christmas. He had been collecting the cards since the 1970's and had amassed an estimated 100,000 cards over his lifetime. He spent hours sorting them by player, team, and league, and had, at times, some very tall stacks.
Stephen is survived by his siblings: Kimberley Leclaire of Naugatuck, CT, Pamela Leclaire Connors of Stoughton, MA, Kristina Leclaire of Concord, MA, Patricia Leclaire Martin of Stoughton, MA, Karolyn Tontarski (Richard) of Alexandria, VA, and Scott Leclaire (Laura Brothers) of Reading, MA.
Nieces and nephews: Kathleen (Lambert), Tim, Keira, and Soren Murray, Lisa (Connors), Peter, Ryan and Claire Gagnon, Capt. Ashley Connors, MD, Brendan and Ericalynn (Odenweller) Connors, William and Colette Martin, Andrew, Sarah (Wilson), Oliver and Eleanor Martin, Christopher Leclaire and Sara Leclaire.
